Kraken Con Animation Fest will take place during Kraken Con 2018, held September 28-30 at the Oakland Convention Center in Oakland, CA.

Kraken Con is proud to present our third animation festival, tentatively scheduled for Sunday, September 30th! Kraken Con is a celebration of anime, cartoons, comics and cosplay and we are excited to showcase animation films from both established and upcoming artists.

Due to an extremely high volume of submissions received in the past (and subsequent difficulty in responding to all of the emails we received from entrants), we have added a small entry fee ($1).

Best Animated Short - $100 USD
Best Student Animated Short - $100 USD
Best Themed Animated Short - $100 USD

All entries selected for screening may request a free pass to Kraken Con 2018. Requested pass may be picked up at the VIP registration desk onsite at Kraken Con.

This festival consists of many excellent works.
Most films were selected for many festivals from all over the world. There are excellent and beautiful films. On the other hand,it is a splendid point of this festival to choose films of the new face such as "Summer Festival"that was created by young students in Japan. The students was able to learn variety of the expressions from the films which gathered from all over the world.
The program of this festival is like a jewel box.

The staff's festival changes the status of my short as "Accepted" on FilmFreeway 5 days before the event and since then, ZERO news from the festival.
I tried to reach them by email a couple of times, also by facebook.. Only automatic respond. I wanted to send them a copy of my film as I proceed for every festival but they never answer me or even send me a more personal email about the selection of the film.
They were absolutely nothing about the program of the festival on their web site. Neither on their facebook.
I can imagine that the organisation of this kind of event can be difficult to manage and require a lot work but in the end, I don't even know if my short was screened. Very disappointing.

    Response from festival:

Hi Thomas, we appreciate your attempt to send us a copy of your film. Due to our previous (failed) experience in attempting to reach entrants we decided to use the screeners we had available via Vimeo and Youtube which were perfectly sufficient. We apologize that the notifications came so late; there was a bout of sickness going around that caused an unforeseen delay - we can assure you that your film was screened, however. Please see our website here for images of the nice pamphlet we distributed at our event: http://www.krakencon.com/programming/film-festival/

    Response from festival:

    Hi Jarunee,

We don't have laurels (and don't mention on our information page that we will provide any) so it's sort of odd that you'd rate us over that. Unfortunately your request came at a time of a high volume of emails about general convention questions; we're working to set up a separate email for festival inquiries.
