MIRAAA Media Festival is a tri-city experimental media festival, will take place over three consecutive weekends in August 2026 in McAllen, Laredo and Eagle Pass. Our mission is to empower artists from the south Texas-Mexico borderlands to explore non-traditional storytelling through collaboration and experimentation with the intention of illuminating under-represented border narratives. This year, we are opening the festival to artists / creatives / filmmakers / media-makers / experimenters from these regions, as well as others across the Texas-Mexico border.

RULES AND TERMS
Open to Texas-Mexico border-based artists, creatives, filmmakers, media-makers, and experimenters.

MIRAAA is free to submit.

Only non-commercial, digital format short fiction and non-fiction films up to 10 minutes (categories: experimental, documentary, video art, and animation).

No limit on when a work was made, only that the filmmaker is from a Texas-Mexico borderland area.

Original work only (may not infringe the rights or copyright of a third party). Submissions with music: must be original or royalty free music only. Maximum 2 channels of audio. Up to 3 submissions per crew.

Video resolution no higher than 4K.

Captioning is required. English subtitles are required.

No AI Policy: Any undisclosed use of AI to generate or AI generated work included in film will result in disqualification of work.

  • MIRAAA Media Festival was a wonderful, intimate experience. I was so honored to be included and as I watched the films, I was even more honored. The atmosphere was warm and inclusive, with time to chat, make screen prints, and have dinner as well as take in all the films. Great communication.
