PROOF is a short film festival in Los Angeles dedicated to showcasing the best in proof-of-concepts.

Do you have a short film or short pilot that you would like to see made into a feature film, television show, limited series, or another longer form of entertainment? Submit to PROOF! Providing a highly competitive and unique festival experience, as well as opening the door for fruitful future filmmaking opportunities, PROOF is a one-stop-shop for the newest emerging talent.

For this festival, we define a proof-of-concept as a smaller version of what a larger future project might look like. It is a short film that best represents the concept, story, tone and themes of a potential feature film or television series.

PROOF is powered by the American Cinematheque. The American Cinematheque is a member-supported 501(c)(3) non-profit arts organization, programming cinema at the Los Feliz 3, Aero Theatre, and Egyptian Theatre. The AC believes that cinema is a communal experience with the power to entertain, enlighten and inspire, building a diverse and engaged film community through immersive film curation, conversation, and presentation. The American Cinematheque bridges the filmmaker to the audience and film history to its future.

- Film selection for the festival will be made by the screening committee. Filmmakers will be notified via email of acceptance.
- PROOF expects that the film’s director(s), and any other guests/talent participating in the Festival with the film in will be present for the public screening of the film, as well as, where applicable, the in-person or digital publicity events, and a question-and-answer session (following the screenings).
- We will require all accepted filmmakers to create a Statement of Intent (SOI) video to deliver to Simple DCP along with your project. These films are 90 seconds long. They will provide more context to the audience on what the feature length version of your project will look like; budget, comparable films, timeline, story structure. Please provide some of this information in your project portal for the screening committee to review.

PROOF is an incredible festival all around. I was fortunate to join this year as a selected filmmaker, and the experience exceeded even my high expectations, which is saying a lot since attending alone is already valuable and inspiring. I would recommend it to all filmmakers, whether up-and-coming or established. If you have a proof-of-concept or a pitch, this is the place to be to connect, learn, and grow.

PROOF Film Festival was absolutely incredible. Not only were the curated films top-notch, but the time and care the PROOF team put into communication, hospitality, and industry meetings is unparalleled. It’s rare for a festival to connect its filmmakers with industry professionals in such a direct way, but PROOF delivered. I also befriended several talented filmmakers and left feeling inspired.

Perfect festival with the perfect team. Proof truly cares about independent cinema, and the team works tirelessly to help filmmakers bring their visions to life. I wasn’t sure how the festival would support my proof-of-concept short on its path to a feature, but Proof exceeded all expectations with its thoughtful curation, networking events, and introductions to industry professionals. I left feeling deeply inspired and motivated to make my feature. Thank you, Imani, Hanna, and Kaiulani.
