The Jakwara Short Film competition uncovers new filmmaking talent showcasing incredible originality, unbridled imagination, and pure entertainment. The competition seeks remarkable filmmakers with diverse, engaging, and universally appealing stories to compete and create short films between 7 and 10 mins long.

Submissions are made through FilmFreeway, the Cinema Society website and physical drop-ins. The submission deadline is 20 November 2022 at 11:59 PM.

Stories must be either comedy, mystery or thriller, drama, documentary or docudramas.

Awards & Prizes

First Prize: 500 USD
Second Prize: 300 USD
Third Prize: 200 USD

Rules & Terms

1. Submit an original short film between 7 to 10 minutes in length.
2. The short film must feature the title card at the start displayed for a minimum of three (3) seconds. *(Request TITLE CARD through WhatsApp or email)*
3. Prizes are awarded for Jury favorites.
4. Please send 3 behind the scenes photos and an electronic press kit to nhakashortfilm@gmail.com
5. Share snippets of your filming progress on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #jakwarashortfilm and tag @cinemasocietyzw and @nhakatv
6. Only MP4, MOV or MKV file formats will be accepted.
7. Properly label your short films, eg The Hustler.
