Mriya International Film Festival is an annual international film festival held in Brussels since 2022. Founded in the aftermath of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the festival combines a commitment to independent cinema with support for humanitarian initiatives.

Mriya IFF presents a program of international cinema including documentary, fiction, and animation films from around the world. The festival brings together filmmakers, audiences, students, and cultural professionals, creating a space for dialogue and the discovery of new voices in contemporary cinema.

The Competition Program is dedicated exclusively to short films. In addition to the competition, the festival presents a non-competitive program of feature-length films.

Over four editions, the festival has welcomed filmmakers from around the world and established itself as a platform for independent cinema in Brussels.

Audience Award

Awarded to the film receiving the highest audience score during the festival. The winner will receive official festival laurels and sponsor prizes.

SupportUA

All submission fees from this category will be donated to humanitarian aid organizations supporting Ukraine.

Films submitted to the SupportUA category will receive a SupportUA honorary mention laurel. Receiving this honorary mention does not guarantee selection or screening at the festival.

We are pleased to welcome filmmakers to submit their work to the Mriya International Film Festival. Please review the following guidelines before submitting your film.

Competition Program Details

The competition program is dedicated exclusively to short films, with a maximum duration of 40 minutes.
Submissions can include films from any year of production.
If selected, a DCP file of the film will be required for screening.

Copyright Ownership

Submitters must hold full copyright ownership or have the legal right to submit the film.

Artificial Intelligence Policy

Films that are entirely generated using artificial intelligence are not eligible for submission.
However, the use of AI as a creative tool or as part of the filmmaking process (for example for visual elements, sound, or editing decisions) is permitted.

Resubmission Policy

Films submitted in previous years are eligible for resubmission.

Awards

The Mriya International Film Festival does not have a jury.
All awards are determined exclusively through audience voting.

Entry Fees

All entry fees are non-refundable. Due to the high volume of late submissions, films submitted on the final deadline day may receive less consideration than earlier submissions.

Promotional Use

By submitting your work, you grant the festival the right to use short excerpts from the film for promotional purposes on our website and social media platforms.

Grant of Exhibition Rights

Submitting your film grants the festival the right to screen the film at the Mriya International Film Festival if it is selected for the program.

Submission Deadline

Submission deadlines are indicated on our FilmFreeway page and official website.

Language Requirements

Films with dialogue in English must include English subtitles.
Ukrainian films presented in Russian must include both Ukrainian and English subtitles.
Films submitted without subtitles (unless marked “subtitles in progress”) may be disqualified.

Ticketing & Accreditation Policy

All tickets and accreditations are non-refundable.

One accreditation is valid for one person only and cannot be shared or transferred.

Discount codes (waivers) are provided individually and we kindly ask not to share them. In case of misuse or use of a code that was not granted directly by the festival, we reserve the right to cancel the accreditation without notice.

Accreditation grants access to festival screenings subject to availability. We recommend arriving in advance, as seats cannot be guaranteed once the screening has reached full capacity.

The festival reserves the right to modify the programme, schedule, or venue if necessary.

We extend our gratitude for considering the Mriya International Film Festival as a platform to share your creative work. Your dedication to the art of storytelling is greatly valued.

It was a privilege to have our documentary film "The Bread of Mother Tradition" featured at the Mriya International Film Festival. We were unable to attend in person, but given the festival’s theme, selection, and excellent communication, we hope to do so in one of the upcoming editions :)
