The Gässli Film Festival is a Swiss short film festival with an international flair. As a non-profit event taking place in the city of Basel, the festival conveys cinematic fascination and a close look behind the art of filmmaking. Several prizes are awarded each year with a «Basil» trophy in various categories – which focus on the promotion of up-and-coming talents. In addition, an inspiring personality from the film business presides the jury, presents a cross-section of his or her work and gives the audience tips and tricks along the way.

The 16th edition of Gässli Film Festival will take place from 27th to 31st August 2024 under the theme «electric». Filmmakers are invited to creatively interpret the thematic framework. We look forward to exciting films of all genres, from horror, art house, comedy, documentary, sci-fi, amateur and many others, all interpretive possibilities are welcome. We set the subject as an open task and look forward to a variety of ideas.

Gässli Sujet-Prize:
This year we will award a prize for the best «electric» («elektrisch») Short Film. The film which comes closest to the topic «electric» and
which illuminates an interpretation in an unexpected and creative way, will be awarded with the Best «electric» Short Award.
