GENESIS CINEMA LONDON

Genesis Cinema was originally established in 1848 as a pub. Film screenings began in 1912, making it one of the longest-running cinema venues in London’s history. Legendary figures such as Charlie Chaplin performed on its stage before leaving for Hollywood.

The cinema hosted the royal premiere of Sparrows Can’t Sing (1963), attended by iconic figures of British culture, including members of the royal family. Genesis Cinema was awarded Cinema of the Year at the Big Screen Awards 2016 in the category of smaller cinemas and has also been listed among the best cinemas in the UK and Ireland by Time Out.

Genesis Cinema has hosted OSCAR & BAFTA Qualifying Festivals such as the Raindance Film Festival and the British Urban Film Festival. Our festival, London Director’s Talents, takes place in the Genesis Studio, where audiences can enjoy films from comfortable sofas and ottomans (lounge seating), creating an intimate viewing atmosphere, even featuring a bar inside the screening room. In addition to film screenings, Genesis Cinema regularly hosts poetry slams, live performances, film discussions, and networking events.
