Not So Happy Film Festival premiered in the summer of 2020, not in a theater near you but in the middle of nowhere in Sweden. In the summer of 2023 we'll have our fourth edition.

Rules & Terms

We are a small film festival with the mission to encourage filmmakers to reach another audience. If your submission fits the theme of the Not So Happy Film Festival, you are welcome to contact us. The theme is the name of the festival. No horror movies, unless it's real life horror like Donald Trump.

We take applications for:

Feature films. The length can be 45 minutes or longer.
Documentaries. The length can be 15 minutes or longer.
Short films. The length can be 45 minutes or shorter.
Art films. The length should be under two hours.

The submitted film must have been finished after January 1, 2021. Your film must be subtitled in English (if the original dialogue is not entirely in English). Make sure the subtitles are big enough to be read from a distance.

    A small festival by wonderful friendly people. Unfortunately I couldn't make it to the screening of my film so they send me a description of how the audience reacted to the film. That was really special and I'm very thankful!

    Unfortunately I could not attent the festival in person, but I truly hope I can do so in the future! It feels like a tiny gem amidst of a jungle of film festivals, organized with a lot of care and vision. The communication was great and after the festival I received some beautiful feedback on our film. Personal, genuine and warm. And the location seems to be magical!

    I was very happy to be a part of the first edition of Not So Happy Film Festival. To show my film in a rather intimate crowd, surrounded by trees, was a wonderful experience. The hospitality was heart warming and the selection of films showed a wide range of topics and aethetic approaches.
