The Brixia Film Fest 2026 will take place from September 25th to 27th, 2026, at MO.CA - Center for New Cultures, Brescia.

The festival is a space for meeting, viewing, and discussion dedicated to contemporary international cinema, with a particular focus on narrative forms capable of interpreting the present.

The theme of the 2026 edition is "Splendid catastrophe".

The festival invites you to explore the contradictions of the present, between crisis and representation, image overload and the search for meaning, in line with the official manifesto of this edition.

Works can freely interpret the theme, through any genre or language.

Prizes will be awarded to some of the selected works.

The nature, number, and possible value of the prizes will be defined and announced at the discretion of the board of directors and the jury.

The prizes may be monetary and/or consist of non-monetary awards.

Special mentions may be awarded.

1. GENERAL INFORMATION
The Brixia Film Fest 2026 will take place from September 25th to 27th, 2026, at MO.CA — Center for New Cultures, Brescia.
The festival is a space for meeting, viewing, and discussion dedicated to contemporary international cinema, with a particular focus on narrative forms capable of interpreting the present.

2. THEME OF THE EDITION
The theme of the 2026 edition is "Splendid catastrophe."
The festival invites you to explore the contradictions of the present, between crisis and representation, image overload and the search for meaning, in line with the official manifesto of this edition.
Works can freely interpret the theme, through any genre or language.

3. COMPETITION CATEGORIES
There are two categories:
a) Short films
Maximum running time: 25 minutes.
b) Medium-length and feature-length
Minimum running time: 40 minutes.
All genres and formats are accepted.

4. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Films must be completed after October 1st, 2025.
Films previously presented at other festivals are accepted.
Work-in-progress films are not accepted.
Films in languages ​​other than Italian or English must be subtitled in English.

5. SUBMISSION PROCEDURES AND COSTS
Submissions must take place exclusively via FilmFreeway.
Shorts (≤ 25 min)
Early Bird: €5 (May 30th – June 10th, 2026)
Regular: €10 (June 11th – June 30th, 2026)
Late: €15 (July 1st – July 20th, 2026)
Medium-length and feature-length (> 40 min)
Early Bird: €20 (May 30th – June 10th, 2026)
Regular: €25 (June 11th – June 30th, 2026)
Late: €30 (July 1st – July 20th, 2026)

6. OPENING AND DEADLINES
Registration opens: May 30th, 2026
Registration closes: July 20th, 2026
Official selection announcement: September 6th, 2026

7. SELECTION AND JURY
The works will be evaluated by a jury composed of professionals from the audiovisual and cultural sectors.
The official selection will consist of works deemed consistent with the editorial line and of significant artistic quality.
The jury's decisions are final.

8. EVALUATION CRITERIA
Each film will be evaluated on a scale of 1 to 10 based on the following criteria:
Originality/creativity
Direction
Writing/screenplay
Cinematography
Cast
Production value
Narrative pace
Structure
Sound and music
Cultural and social relevance
Thematic consistency with "Splendid catastrophe"
Emotional engagement
Stylistic innovation
Adherence to festival guidelines

8. AWARDS AND PRIZES
Prizes will be awarded to some of the selected works.

9. TECH SPECS
Accepted formats: Apple ProRes 422 or higher, .mp4, .mov, .mxf, DCP
An online viewing link (Vimeo or equivalent) is required for the selection process.
Selected films must provide high-quality projection files with Italian subtitles.

10. CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION
There is no screening fee for selected projects within the festival.
Participants guarantee that they hold all rights to the work.
The organisers are exempt from liability in the event of copyright infringement.

11. USAGE OF MATERIALS
By participating in the competition, the filmmakers authorize the use of video excerpts and promotional materials for the festival's communication purposes.

12. FINAL NOTES
Participation in the festival implies full acceptance of these regulations.
