We have had our hand in producing comedy for over 15 years and this is not our first rodeo. In 2010 we began the Chicago Comedy Film Festival. After 9 years successfully running in Chicago we are expanding based on feedback that filmmakers want a strong comedy film festival in Los Angeles. As filmmakers and producers ourselves, we have produced short and feature films. We know how sacred it is to produce your own content and then ask a committee of people to review your work. We will be an inclusive, welcoming festival, and we promise to make your experience with us memorable. The Los Angeles Comedy Film Festival is a film festival for the comedy filmmaker. Let’s have a laugh!

  • I had a great time celebrating at Los Angeles Comedy Film Festival! The communication was great all along. The PR and posts for projects were excellent and very professional. The festival hosts are wonderful, friendly, and very organized. I really enjoyed the experience and would submit again for sure!

Was really excited to submit to the new, LA Comedy Festival as I'd heard good things about it in 2019. The communication was a bit inconsistent, and as of the writing of this (about three weeks after the Festival) no Award Winners have been announced. I reached out multiple times, both email and through their website contact portal, to inquire about Awards before writing this review, and received no response.

Without a doubt, the most consistent communication provided by LACFF was to provide those filmmakers who had already paid $45-65 for an entry fee with an additional link for donations to the Festival. To be honest, the entire experience felt a bit like a cash grab :(

UPDATE: After posting this review, I got a response from the Festival essentially saying that "Winners haven't been announced and will be in the 'coming weeks.'" Three weeks later, the Festival announced TWO WINNERS, for Best Feature and Best Short Film. Yet on their website and on their Film Freeway details, they list 12+ categories. Even for their 2022 submissions, the Festival touts 6 categories "and more."

Truly, this issue for me is only about transparency and communication. In the time between the Festival ending and this letter, over a dozen emails, posts, and Call to Actions have been sent out from the Festival requesting advance purchases and donations. Where is that same consideration when it comes to communicating with Filmmakers? When it comes to following up on the product and event they've advertised?

I've never had a Festival experience leave this kind of taste in my mouth. The communication was basically ZERO until I posted a review, and then after that they took three weeks to announce a fraction of the "Winning Categories" they'd touted during the Submission process.

Spend the money on Youtube ads, this Festival isn't worth it.

    Response from festival:

    Hi John,
It is true that we have not announced awards yet.

As far as declaring that we asked for donations from filmmakers, that is simply untrue. All filmmakers were given free entry to the virtual festival as well as free passes and an open bar in person event on Saturday June 4th in North Hollywood that was highly attended. In spite of being in post Covid, we did our absolute best to support artists while working within certain constraints.

It's possible that you are on our general mailing list which in that case yes, we likely asked folks to donate. We can absolutely remove you from that list.
