The Concept Development Lab by Scriptmatix is a selective development opportunity for screenwriters and filmmakers who want to pressure-test and strengthen a story idea before moving into full execution.

Scriptmatix has a long track record of helping screenwriters and filmmakers secure development deals, production opportunities, literary representation, staff writing positions, and meetings with companies including Netflix, Apple, Warner Bros., Sony, and other major studios and production banners.

The Lab reflects Scriptmatix's commitment to developing with emerging creators looking to build meaningful relationships in the film industry.

Applicants may submit an original concept or one developed through the Scriptmatix Story Concept Generator. Selected participants will refine their concept live in a recorded session led by Mikhael Bassilli, Founder of Scriptmatix and Executive at Media Artists Group.

This is not a traditional contest. It is a structured development experience designed to clarify premise, deepen character dynamics, sharpen narrative direction, and establish a strong foundation before drafting begins.

The Lab is best suited for writers who are serious about development and open to refining their ideas within a structured, professional environment.

If you’re ready to move from concept to execution with clarity and industry-level guidance, we invite you to submit your idea.

Selected writers receive:

• A live 60-minute concept development session
• Professional guidance on premise, character, and execution
• One month of complimentary access to the Scriptmatix Writer Plan
• A recorded copy of the session for continued refinement

Note: Selection is limited. Not all submissions will be chosen.

Submission Requirements
• Submissions must include a concise logline or concept summary. NOT a full screenplay.
• Concept may be generated through Scriptmatix Story Concept Generator.
• By submitting, applicants agree to a live virtual session if selected.

Selection Process
Submissions are reviewed by human process, and based on originality, clarity of concept, and development potential. Selection is discretionary and not all entries will be chosen.

Recording Disclosure
Selected participants agree that sessions may be recorded. Portions of the session may be used for educational or promotional purposes unless the participant opts out in writing prior to the session.

Intellectual Property
All rights to submitted concepts remain with the writer. Scriptmatix does not claim ownership of submitted ideas or materials.

AI Disclosure
Concepts may be generated or refined using the Scriptmatix Story Engine. The Lab is designed as a development experience using AI-assisted creative tools. Submitted work is never used for training purposes.

General
By submitting, applicants agree to receive communication related to the Concept Development Lab and Scriptmatix development opportunities. Participants may unsubscribe at any time.

Don’t be surprised if it takes longer than expected for them to announce the final placements (I checked their website, and there wasn’t any official announcement there either). Other than that, it seems legitimate. I hope you can update my Judging Status on FilmFreeway from Selected to Finalist, as that is my final position.

I am honored to take part in this wonderful festival. The team is very responsive and helpful. It’s a great event! I will submit my next script. I am looking forward to the next quantum leap with you.
PS, I emailed your festival the other day; it would be great if you could look at it. Thank you again.

I hate the put this festival on blast, especially since I won the best feature award, but since hearing I won I've gotten no communication from the festival, and when I scheduled my call with a producer / manager at Scriptmatix, no one picked up on the other end of the video call and then the link went dead. So, I dunno man. Maybe I'll hear from someone.... Maybe not. Hoping this review prompts a response from the festival.
