The WVIFF is committed to showcasing the amazing talent from within our state, whether it is the West Virginia-grown popcorn sold in our movie theater, West Virginia artists who design our t-shirts, or, of course, the films made by, about, and in the Mountain State.

Every month, for at least the first two Wednesdays of the month, the WVIFF showcases a film with ties to the state. From documentaries, horror, comedies, and everything in between, this is a chance to show off the great films with ties to our home. Submissions for West Virginia Wednesday are for any of the months remaining in 2019.

All of the West Virginia-connected films we have shown at the Underground Cinema in 2019 will be considered for the Pammy Award, in the Spring of 2020, held at the WVIFF’s annual Oscar Party!

In the spring of 2020, the best film from the 2019 calendar year will be awarded the first ever Pam Haynes Prize for Excellence in West Virginia Filmmaking ("Pammy").

What is the Pammy Award?

The Pamela Haynes Award for Excellence in West Virginia Filmmaking (“Pammy”) is a new, annual award given by the WVIFF. Pam Haynes is the former Executive Director of the (now-defunct) West Virginia Film Office and former Executive Director and Board President of the WVIFF. Each year at our Oscar Party, the WVIFF will award the Pammy, as selected from the previous year’s best West Virginia-connected films shown at the Underground Cinema.

To help determine the "best" films, the audience votes at the end of the screening on a 1-5 scale.

West Virginia Wednesdays only applies to films that meet one or more of the following:

The West Virginia Wednesdays series is a competition for an award, which includes a cash value. Therefore, while the WVIFF will charge admissions to the film, only winning films will result in payment to the filmmakers/distributors. By submitting your film for this series, you agree to this arrangement.

Format
The WVIFF will consider any submission type, but has a strong preference for electronically-submitted formats that are playable on a computer. We do not accept DCP submissions.

This is a very small theater so you know that the people in attendance are very avid film folk. The Q&A afterward is fun. They did have some technical issues the night my film was shown, but everyone was patient and reassuring as they worked out. All in all, a fun night!
