We are pleased to announce the KI Science Film Festival Karlsruhe in the Science Year 2019!
The KI Science Film Festival based in Karlsruhe, Germany is a must for filmmakers and scientists to submit their works on Artificial Intelligence, Science and Research on AI (in German “Künstliche Intelligenz”: KI).

All films nominated for the awards will be presented to the audience free of charge at the KI Science Film Festival from 3rd to 5th July 2019 at three exciting venues and in three to four partner cities at the “KI Science Film on tour”. The last evening will be the award gala where the KI Science Film Awards as well as three honorable mentions and an audience choice award will be bestowed.

The KI Science Film Festival, held by the ZAK | Centre for Cultural and General Studies at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, is a part of the Science Year 2019, an initiative of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

The KI Science Film Award will be endowed in two categories: Best Feature Film (€ 3,000) and Best Short Film (€ 2,000).

Additionally, three honorable mentions (endowed with 500€) are awarded to the best social impact contribution, best artistic contribution and best newcomer film. Moreover, there will also be an audience award (endowed with 500€).

Nominated filmmakers are strongly encouraged to visit Karlsruhe for the duration of the Festival (3rd to 5th of July 2019) for the award ceremony. Travel fee for journeys from inside Europe as well as a hotel stay for the duration of the Festival will be covered by the KI Science Film Festival.

Long and Short Films of all genres are accepted for submission. Formally, short films must not exceed a maximum length of 30 minutes. Long Films must have a duration from 30 to a maximum of 120 minutes.

The choice of the genre is free, decisive for a nomination is a clear relation to Artificial Intelligence and science, a socially critical approach, the artistic implementation and cinematic depth.

* Submitted film contributions must not be older than three years (completion 2016 or later).
* Submitted films must be either in German or English language or have German or English subtitles as Open Captions.
* We do not accept physical data such as USB drives or BluRay Discs.
* Nominated movies should be made available as digital file (.mov, .avi, .mpeg, mp4 or similar). A DCP should be made available upon request.

An independent expert jury will nominate twelve works for the Shortlist to be shown at the festival. Nominated filmmakers are strongly encouraged to be present at the KI Science Film Festival (travel expenses within Europe will be covered).
