The work must have a maximum duration of 20 minutes (including opening and closing credits) and may have participated and/or won other Festivals.

A late deadline of 24 March 2023 is also provided, with a late registration fee of 15.00€ / 17.20$.
Films expressly invited by the Artistic Direction can also take part in the Competition. Participation in the Festival can be refused to any film technically unable to guarantee a good public screening.

In exceptional cases and for justified reasons, the registration deadline of the films may be extended.

2.2 FEATURE FILM COMPETITION
Feature films coming from all over the world, completed after the 1st of september 2020 and attributable to the horror and thriller genres are eligible to participate in the international competition for short films. The work must have a minimum duration of 70 minutes and a maximum duration of 90 minutes (including opening and closing credits) and may have participated and/or won other Festivals.

This is a general not prohibitive criterion: all the exceptions will be considered according to the only and absolute discretion of the Artistic Direction of the Festival.
In exceptional cases and for justified reasons, the registration deadline of the films may be extended.

2.3 SELECTED FILMS
The Festival will announce the films selected for the competition (which will be screened during the event and will compete for the prizes) by the first half of May 2022.
The authors of the selected works will be contacted privately.
For all the works admitted to the competition, they must provide:
- film in a format suitable for screening
- complete technical data sheet
- synopsis (3 lines maximum)
- bio/filmography of the director (max 8 lines)
- 3 pictures of the film and a photo of the director
- a statement by the director about the film
- any other promotional material (posters, brochures, press-kits)
The material must be sent in a single email exclusively to the address info@apuliahorror.it
If the material does not reach the Festival within 8 days from the communication to the selected author, the latter is considered out of competition and the Artistic Direction will choose another feature film/short film for the competition.

2.4 SUBTITLES
Although being an international event, films with a language different than Italian will be subtitled in Italian to facilitate the majority of users of this fifth edition of the Festival. The Direction has the faculty to facilitate international users with a double subtitling.
Concurrent with the registration of your film (spoken in a language other than Italian or, if the film is Italian, for those parts that could be spoken in another language and/or dialect) the English subtitle file must be attached.
Optionally, subtitle files directly in Italian can be sent by attachment.
If the submission mode does not provide for sending attachments, the subtitle file can be sent separately via email.
The subtitles must be appropriately synchronized. The text must provide a correct translation and interpretation of the dialogues and must be complete.
The subtitle file should preferably be an .srt file or other text format or otherwise editable via text editor.
The absence of the subtitle file or its incompleteness could invalidate the application without however giving right to a refund of the registration fee. The Direction, through the technical-logistical staff, has the right (but is not obliged to do it and/or do it for everyone) to contact the author personally to request the subtitle file or to implement actions on the subtitle already sent to fulfill the requirements mentioned above. This request is completely separate from the selection procedure (which is entrusted to an artistic jury) because it is a practice implemented by the technical-logistic staff.
The Direction and the technical-logistic staff have full freedom to modify the synchronization and the disposition of the subtitles in accordance with the dialogue and complete artistic license in their translation and modulation.
The author can request a copy of the subtitles created and/or modified by the technical-logistic staff by email, with a quantifiable financial contribution depending on the work done and/or the number of files.

- eventuale altro materiale promozionale (poster, brochure, press-kit)

Unfortunately I was not able to attend in person the event but my family had the chance to go to represent my film Escalation and they had a blast. Friendly staff, amazing location, fun events and workshops, and a killer lineup, plus screening of cult classics and more, the whole package. Speaking for myself, as an Italian filmmaker, I cannot praise enough a Festival like Apulia Horror for all the hard work it does to bring to the audience genre movies in a Country that has forgotten its own past and where genre movies are only seen and remembered as B-movies. So thank you Apulia Horror for all your love and help in showcasing our work, and I will make sure to attend in person next time.
