The ‘Moonlight Festival’ is an annual film festival with an aim to give a platform to passionate and incredible filmmakers and creators who are unknown.

The festival is an outdoor venue based on Macleay Island, QLD. With one big screen and incredible sound, the aim for this festival is to celebrate the passionate filmmakers and the movie ‘go-ers’. Its an awesome night with a selection of freshly cooked food drinks and a bunch of people who love to watch movies.

But we’re not just a film festival. We are a platform for students and anyone trying to break into the film industry. Our goal is to provide up and coming filmmakers with useful resources and to provide a common ground for filmmakers alike to create and be original.

Us at moonlight, in fact, are also up and coming filmmakers, so we know what its like to be a filmmaker that isn’t in the spotlight and struggling to break into the industry.

At the same time while promoting other filmmakers we are also planning our annual charity film festival. We see this more as an opportunity to celebrate the individuals and the creators alike. As well as the festival supporting a great cause.

This year in May 2019, we are hosting our first festival for Moonlight. Our chosen charity that we are partnering with is Cancer Council Australia. Cancer is a major issue in the world and is rising to be the highest cause of death in many countries. At Moonlight, we understand the pain and suffering that patients and families have to go through.

Us at Moonlight have witnessed first-hand family members and loved ones suffering from cancer. So we decided to do something about it. We have an absolute passion for film, stories, and creativity, and we also want to do something about cancer. So why not team up with an organization that helps existing patients with cancer and provides to research for development and cures.

During the event, all the proceeds and donations will be donated to the Cancer Council Foundation, Australia. Donations can be accepted online, (link is down below).

All the awards will be presented by our main sponsors on the night. There is no cash prize but if you win a category we want you to feel special.

We are still currently in the early stages of sponsorship preparation so this could be subject to change. Currently, the award for winning is a verified film festival winner tag and signed documents to verify the claim of an award.

Our Award sponsor will present you with a glass trophy with the name of your film and your name engraved. Photos will be taken of you with the award in front of a sponsorship board for your memory and also another verification of winning in the event.

Submissions to be successfully selected all criteria of the work must meet our following guidelines below.

- The visual media must adhere to Australian Classification Guidelines, Department of Communications and the Arts. The event is a family-friendly event, any film that has any explicit violence, gore, sexual content, Repetitive and or consistent coarse language.

Moonlight Festival suggests that the undergo either E, G, PG, or M classification. Any film that does not comply with these classifications or has similar classifications too, MA, MA 15+, Restricted, or X, will not be selected for the event.

- The festival has been designed to only showcase short films, (Under 20 Minutes). If your film is over 20 minutes we will not accept your film.

You are allowed to edit an alternate version of your film to reach this time limit at your discretion.

- We accept work from all across the globe, this includes international films. Although if your film is in a different language the film must either be subtitled in English or have an English dubbing. This is because the audience will mostly be English speaking.

- If your film is accepted, either you or someone who has worked on the film must be at the event in person to accept any awards. This is for sponsorship reasons as award winners are presented by the award sponsors of the event.

When you submit your film make sure to be available for the entire day of May 25th. We also want you to get some exposure with people and other filmmakers.

- Our selection process consists of a judging panel after the final deadline. We have a panel of 6 judges that are filmmakers themselves. On the night of the event, there is also a fan favorite award, this is during the night the crowd votes for their favorite film and is an extra award for an amazing film.
