Madrid Sci-Fi Film Festival

This edition is objective is to present the best SCI-FI independent short films that the world has to offer.

The screenings will be held in Madrid on December 2023.

Rules and regulations:

All submissions must meet Festival Regulations in order to be considered. By submitting a film to the Festival, you acknowledge and agree to the following terms:

1. All projects must be original works and the producer/ filmmaker or distributor submitting the project to the festival must possess the pertinent rights to such material.

2. The submission fees are reduced and under no circumstance shall the organizers profit from them. As the event is not subsidized, these fees shall serve to cover the travel costs of the guest speakers, passes for the filmmakers, general organization fees, and prizes.

3. Projects must be submitted before 23:59 hours on October 31, 2023. Late submissions will not be accepted.

4. All submissions must have been completed after January 1, 2022.

5. LENGTH REQUIREMENTS: Films must have a run time of under 15 minutes, including titles and credits.

6. GENRE REQUIREMENTS: The Festival is NOT open to all genres. All submissions MUST be considered SCI-FI. Comedies, animation, dramas, action, adventure, supernatural, and/ or documentary films that are also considered science fiction will be accepted as well.

7. Submissions that are not filmed in Spanish shall include Spanish subtitles.

8. Submissions must comply with the stated Festival rules and submission rules or they will be disqualified. It is the participant’s responsibility to ensure that all criteria are met before submitting a project.

9. The selection of the submissions to be included as contestants, as well as the programming of each film during the Festival, shall be the exclusive responsibility of the organizers of the Festival. The Festival shall communicate the acceptance or rejection of each submission privately to the individual responsible for said submission.

10. COPY FOR THE SUBMISSION: Participants must provide a password protected permanent link to the submission.

11. COPY FOR THE SCREENING: Once the selection of contestants is complete, the Festival organizers will individually and privately contact each contestant to request the copy for the screening and provide instructions for sending the copy. The copy must be digital and under no circumstance shall the copy for the screening have a resolution of less than 1920 x 1080. The organizers will also request posters, still frames, and a trailer of the film, and participants give express consent for the use of such items for the promotion of the Festival, including fragmented clips of the trailer to be used in audiovisual promotional materials.

12. If the information provided by the participant in the submission is found to be erroneous and/ or does not comply with these regulations, the organizers may disqualify the submission.

13. The participants agree not to make public the selection of a project as a contestant until the organizers release the official communication of the final list of contestants.

14. By submitting a project to the Festival, the director or producer guarantees the possession of all rights to the project and all material contained therein, and grants the Festival with the following non-exclusive and irrevocable rights necessary in order to select the submission as a contestant in the COMPETITION: The Festival may select both the contestants and the winner of the competition pursuant to its own criteria and to that of those individuals assigned to the task. The participant grants the Festival with the right to exhibit the short film solely during the scheduled event. The Festival may make an unlimited number of publications for promotional purposes containing the name(s), image(s), and/ or voice(s) that appear in the film and of the filmmaker, cast members, crew members, as well as biographies of participants, still frames of the film and the synopsis of the plot, and any other information about the cast and/ or crew provided to the Festival.

15. The works that are online and public, will be automatically disqualified, as well as the works for advertising purposes.

16. The viewing of all submissions is NOT guaranteed. The films that comply with Festival Rules but are not chosen as contestants this year will automatically be submitted for consideration the following year and may be selected as contestants at the discretion of the Festival.

Esta edición tiene como objetivo presentar los mejores cortometrajes independientes de Ciencia Ficción de todo el mundo.

La proyección se realizará el próximo mes de Diciembre en Madrid.

Reglas y términos:

Todos los trabajos deben cumplir con las Reglas del Festival para su consideración. Al ingresar o enviar una película al festival, se reconoce y aceptan los siguientes términos:

1. Todas las obras deben ser trabajos originales y cuyos derechos estén en posesión del productor/realizador o distribuidora que inscriba el cortometraje en el festival.

2. Las tarifas de inscripción son reducidas, y en ningún caso sirven para lucrar a los organizadores. Al no recibir ningún tipo de subvención, estas tarifas servirán para cubrir los desplazamientos de los ponentes, acreditaciones de los realizadores, organización y premios

3. La fecha límite de entrega de trabajos es a las 23:59 del 31 de Octubre de 2023. No se aceptarán inscripciones después de esta hora.

4. Las películas presentadas deberán haberse realizado después del 1 de enero de 2022.

5. LIMITACIONES DE TIEMPO: Las películas presentadas deberán tener menos de 15 minutos de tiempo de reproducción, incluidos títulos y créditos.

6. LIMITACIONES DE GÉNERO: El Festival NO está abierto a todos los géneros. Todas las inscripciones DEBEN considerarse Ciencia Ficción, incluyendo todas sus vertientes. Comedias, animación, dramas, acción, aventura, sobrenatural y/o documentales, establecidos dentro o relacionados con el género anteriormente citado.

7. Las películas en idiomas que no sean español deben tener subtítulos en español.

8. L@s participaciones deben cumplir con las reglas del Festival y envío indicadas o serán descalificadas. Es responsabilidad del participante asegurarse de que se cumplan todos los criterios antes de enviar la participación.

9. La selección de obras a concurso de entre las inscritas, así como la programación de cada una durante el Festival, será competencia exclusiva de la organización del Festival. El Festival comunicará a todos los participantes inscritos el resultado de la selección de forma individual y privada.

10. COPIA DE INSCRIPCIÓN: Los participantes deberán facilitar un enlace permanente de reproducción con contraseña.

11. COPIA DE REPRODUCCIÓN: Una vez realizada la selección, la organización del festival de manera privada, se pondrá en contacto con los participantes para solicitar la copia de reproducción, las instrucciones de cómo deben enviar la copia serán facilitadas de forma individual y privada. La copia será en formato digital con una resolución que, en ningún caso, podrá ser menor de 1920 x 1080. También se pedirán carteles, fotogramas y trailer de la película, dando su consentimiento expreso para ser usado únicamente en la promoción del festival, pudiendo usar un fragmento del trailer para la elaboración de las piezas audiovisuales de promoción.

12. Si la información facilitada por el participante en la inscripción de la sección oficial resulta errónea y/o contraria a las presentes bases, la organización podrá programar la obra fuera de concurso.

13. Los participantes se comprometen a no hacer pública la selección a concurso de su obra hasta que la organización no lleve a cabo la comunicación oficial sobre la lista de seleccionados.

14. Al ingresar al Festival y presentar la participación, el director/ra, o productor/ra de la obra, garantiza que posee todos los derechos sobre esta y el material contenido en ella, y además otorga al Festival las siguientes licencias no exclusivas e irrevocables para seleccionar la entrada como parte de COMPETICIÓN: El Festival podrá seleccionar la película utilizando su propio criterio y el de las personas designadas al efecto, así como la decisión de quien merece ser el trabajo ganador. El participante cede al Festival el derecho de exhibición del cortometraje únicamente durante la celebración del evento. El Festival podrá hacer publicaciones ilimitadas con fines promocionales con el nombre, imagen, voz, imagen del cineasta, elenco, equipo, biografías de los mismos, imágenes fijas y sinopsis de la trama de la película, así como cualquier otra información sobre su elenco y/o equipo proporcionado al Festival.

15. Las obras que se encuentren "Online" y en abierto, serán automáticamente descalificadas, así como las obras con fines publicitarios.

16. NO se garantiza la revisión de todas las películas enviadas. Las películas que cumplan con las Reglas del Festival, pero no se seleccionen para el mismo en este año, se ingresarán automáticamente para su consideración en el año siguiente y se podrán elegir a decisión del Festival.
