The Joppa KIDS Film Contest is a film contest for high school students. The goal is to help end homelessness by raising awareness about homeless issues, solutions and those that help the homeless.

High school students are encouraged to make a one to a five-minute short video about homelessness within one of the three categories listed below. Winning videos will be shown at schools and other organizations, as well as online to help raise awareness.

Awards will go to the top three videos in each of the three categories.

Video submissions open March 1, 2018
Video submissions close April 30, 2018
Contestants must be high school students
Short videos must have a total running time of 1-5-minutes including credits
Short videos must include one of the categories listed below in “Short Film Categories”
No copyrighted material, such as music, is allowed unless fully licensed for all uses

A panel of judges from the video, homeless outreach, and homeless community will review and evaluate the videos. The winners will be announced during the week of May 28th, 2018.

A maximum of 100 points will be available. Videos will be judged on the following criteria:

Messaging (50 Points): Is the message clear and directly related to one of the three required categories? How moving or persuasive is the message?

Creativity & Originality (25 Points): How well did the video incorporate imagery, sound, acting, direction or other elements to convey the message?

Technical Quality (25 Points): What is the quality of the lighting, sound & imagery? Does the video employ good editing and flow from scene to scene?
