The Milwaukee UNDERGROUND Film Festival is a student run film festival devoted to showcasing independent, artist driven cinema. For 21 years we have been programming filmmakers that defy convention in an attempt to amplify unheard voices. Our festival celebrates the potential of cinema to imbue a community with excitement, critical discussion, and open-mindedness through the presentation of new artistic forms.

We're looking for underground, unique, independent, artist-made, subversive, weird, strange, avant-garde, experimental, non-traditional films and videos! No normie stuff! Keep it weird, people.

What we're looking for:
1. We're looking for underground, unique, independent, artist-made, subversive, weird, strange, avant-garde, experimental, non-traditional films and videos!
2. This festival focuses primarily on short films.
3. The form is up to you: we'll watch and show any type of moving image project: narrative, documentary, experimental, animation, music video, essay, new media.

  • I had such a great experience at MUFF 2020! The festival curated such a fascinating line-up of films, and it was especially interesting to see how the various blocks fit together. I was also impressed by the festival's virtual format. Even though we didn't get to celebrate in person, I still got to connect with some really excellent filmmakers. I'm so honored that "Bright Orange" was included. Thank you so much, UW-Milwaukee!
