  • Submitted in 2020, selected for 2021, and was told I'd be part of the programming in 2022. But now they are accepting submissions (and fees) for 2023, and there was never any update about my script whatsoever. Nothing, despite several attempts to get in touch.

This is the same team that runs the Red Flight Pictures Screenplay Awards. I was selected for that with something else a few years ago. I resorted to digging up those old emails when trying to get a response for this. Didn’t help. I now have doubts about that one.

Yes, covid happened, and festivals everywhere had to scramble. But I think two and a half years is plenty of time to respond to emails.

I hate to leave a bad review, and if you look at my profile, you'll see I almost never do. But communication really has to become a non-negotiable expectation here. If you left a good review below—and you actually attended—then I celebrate that for you and hope it went really, really well and that all sorts of amazing things happen for you. I don’t want them to be a scam, because that wouldn’t be good news for any of us.

But I honestly have no confidence in them at all—and they’ve selected my stuff twice. If you have to budget your submission fees, stay away from this one for sure. It's so not worth it.

    Response from festival:

    Hi Brian,

We are so sorry to hear about your experience with us. COVID was definitely a challenge for many festivals. Our programming team responded to your email on March 5th. We were so sorry that if that didn’t make it to you. We are learning that communication sent from filmfreeway sometimes lands in spam folders. Apologies if that was the case for you. As you can see from our previous reviews (and our reviews on the film festival listing) we take communication very seriously.

As for the Red Flights Pictures screenplay awards, they are two very different teams with very different judges. Although Red Flights Pictures is one of our sponsors and programs the film festival side for us. We encourage you take a look at those reviews as well and hopefully you can understand that we do take everyones experience very seriously and we are so sad to see that we missed the mark here.

Thank you so much for sharing and we do hope we get another chance in the future.

  • Really fantastic festival! Quality films, truly helpful workshops, and run by great people. I LOVED the whole event and will definitely be back!

  • Arms open wide for this endearing film festival run by a group of caring and loving filmmakers inside a pink theatre oozing with charm. And with a cherry on top expect a whole lot of extras in the mix of things: Wonderful lunches. Sweet great and meets. Tiki parties. Beach walks.
