With this festival we aim to celebrate the blue marble we all live on and also confront the challenges we face in maintaining a livable planet. Most of us don’t want to up and move to Mars just yet, so we’re looking for films that inspire us all to help save our planet.

We take all comers, whether they be compelling documentaries, adventure films, animation and narrative fiction films with environmental themes. Films are curated into themed sections, which pair projects with complimentary subject matter or ideas to create a cinematic journey for our audiences and begin to engage them with sustainable solutions.

The Green Film Festival is presented by SF IndieFest, a 501c3 non-profit, that has presented over 60 film festivals over the past 24 years, acquiring a strong following with independent film fans and garnering press coverage and recognition for thousands of films and filmmakers. SF IndieFest is a founding member of the Film Festival Alliance.

Comments from attending filmmakers:
"Thanks for putting up another fantastic festival. We had a great time and it was fun meeting you both in person. See you again next year!" - Jerry B, 2023

"Thank you so much Chris and also Jeff. I really appreciate our connection, the conversation and the meaningful press the film got plus being able to return to the Roxie and Bay Area and have an in person screening!
I will definitely spread the word about the festival and post a review for the festival. Some filmmakers already asked me about how the experience was based on what they saw on social media and I am speaking highly of you!
So thank you again and hope to return with my next films!" -Gemma C, 2023

Fantastic festival! Always love screening at the Roxie Theater. The programers are amazing... thinking of many details that other festivals don't. I love that they do a Q&A for online screenings.

I loved being part of this festival, even though unfortunately I was not able to attend. The organizers were thoughtful and clearly appreciated each film. I also appreciated being interviewed about my film. Everything was done with care and attention to detail.

Thank you for selecting my short documentary, “Climate Emergency.” I’m very proud to have been included because all the films were great and several were brilliant. I highly recommend your festival: communication was outstanding, value, quality, overall rating deserve six stars.

You guys work so hard to pull off this festival in these tough times, and I greatly admire you for that! It is vital to maintain a indie film fest scene in downtown San Francisco and keep historical cinema venues from disappearing. I really appreciated that you made it possible for The Crooked Jades, the band who did the music for CALL ME MULE, to perform live after the screening.

  • It was so fantastic to have our film "ACID Canal" a part of the 2023 Green Film Fest. Jeff was incredibly responsive and so helpful with the many questions I had through the process. Thank you to everyone involved!
