The Reel Stars Student Film Festival, in partnership with Port Coquitlam May Days, is proud to present the filmmakers and animators gala event at the Michael Wright Art Gallery May 9th, 2024. The RSSFF was developed by a consortium of Media Arts teachers in Coquitlam, who felt there was a need for a “localized” event, whereby more student films could be recognized. The Reel Stars Film Festival represents an opportunity for SD43 students to have their films viewed in a public forum and be honoured for their achievement. With the gracious help from the City of Port Coquitlam and the sponsorship from Telus, we are proud to present this gala event for our local talented media students.

Awards & Prizes

Reel Stars honours student achievement in film (any category) or animation. See Rules and Regulations for more information. Winners will receive the coveted Reel Stars Slate Board Plaque.

The Gala format is a little different this year. Students and sponsor teachers will be attending the Filmmakers/Animators banquet featuring the winning animations and films. Winning students may invite friends and family at a cost of $5 per person. We will be having dinner then watching the winning films and animations stopping to award the filmmakers/animators for their achievement. A Q&A with the filmmaker/animator may also be included.

Rules & Terms

All films need to be created wholly by students...this includes production, direction and all technical aspects. The use of adults in non-creative roles (advice, acting, monetary support, etc) IS allowed. If in doubt, please check with your instructor, who in turn, will check with the committee members for clarification, if required. Alternatively, you may contact the committee directly through email (see contact page). All films must have been completed within 12 months of the entry deadline. Total running time, including credits, can not exceed 10 minutes. All movies must conform to a PG Rating.
