- Second Unit

- Deadline

The GENRENALE is the first and only festival, that is dedicated exclusively to german genre cinema. We show films, that had it difficult in Germany for a long time: Action, Science-Fiction, Horror, Western, Thriller, Mystery or mixed genres. The others can have ordinary comedies, realistic dramas or pure art house cinema.
The first edition of the festival took place in February of 2013 in Berlin and since then the festival has been growing every year.
The program of the GENRENALE5, which took place from 13th until 16th of February 2017 in the Babylon Cinema in Berlin Mitte enveloped four full days of short films, features, a panel discussion and a pitching event.
The GENRENALE6 will take place in Berlin, Mai of 2019. The final length of the festival always depends on the number of films, that will be shown and the additional events.
For the film-selection the quality of the film, the genre and the origin from a german speaking country are critical. The program is not chosen, to fill a specific length, but only films are selected, which represent convincing examples of german genre films that can convince the skeptics.
The festival distinguishes itself with it's friendly atmosphere and the close exchange of filmmakers, industry representatives and the audience. We don't value established Festival-Etiquette and the separation of VIP and "only P". With the GENRENALE we give a home to those filmmakers and audience members that have enough of all the same german film.
"The venue is a dream, the program diversified and the films are of high quality. That's how it's supposed to be." - Second Unit
