What began as a small underground collective of filmmakers, writers, actors and artists has exploded into sublime and surreal international artistry and pageantry for the world to share.

Winning films will have their work shared with a live audience for filmmaker Q & A afterward.

Winning scripts will have their writing performed by professional actors before a live audience for feedback. Winning scripts will also be reviewed by award-winning producers and other industry professionals for a possible production deal.

Official New York Short Film & Screenwriting Competition Rules & Terms:

* More than one entry may be submitted. However, each entry must be accompanied by a separate entry form and entry fee.

All submitted films and/or screenplays/music/treatments must comply with the Submissions Guidelines including deadlines, exhibition format, entry material, etc.

Please upload a secure online screener and/or screenplay/music/treatments. The film and/or screenplay must be uploaded by the submission deadline in order to be considered. Your submission application will not be processed otherwise. If you are accepted into the festival, a DVD or Blu-ray screener must be submitted.

We will email you when we receive your submission. If you do not receive an email, we did not receive your submission.

The New York Short Film & Screenwriting Competition is not accepting works-in-progress.

Films and/or screenplays submitted must be available in English or in the original language with English subtitles.

Entrants are responsible for obtaining any necessary licenses, royalties, release forms, clearances and permits necessary to present their work. The New York Short Film & Screenwriting Competition is not responsible for any claim involving copyright, trademark, credits or royalty infringement related to the work.

If your film is selected, you will be asked to provide either a print or digital press kit which includes: headshot and brief bio of director, color and/or B&W stills from the film, screeners for press, and a video trailer (cleared for use on the Festival website).

The date, time and location of the screenings of films are solely at the discretion of The New York Short Film & Screenwriting Competition.

The Festival will award up to six additional screenings to the top three features and top three short films. These screenings will take place throughout New York and New England. The Festival requires that the filmmaker allow these additional screenings of his/her work.

All film and screenplay entries selected for the festival grant the The New York Short Film & Screenwriting Competition the rights to use footage, stills, titles and information from the film for promotional purposes.

All filmmakers will be notified via email regarding their acceptance into the Competition.

It was a great experience at this festival! Joda Hodge was a wonderful host and very commuincative and helpful throughout the process. The venues were nice and the films chosen were all really thought provoking, interesting, some with a touch of comedy... I got to network and meet new friends which is big part of what we hoped to experience. It was well organized and hospitable. I would definitely recommend this festival! Thanks for the wonderful time!

The festival communicated with me throughout the process ,my movie was a semi finalist but didn't make it to the screening, which is okay by me. Every festival know what they are looking for in a movie. For the guy that complained about tickets, almost every festival requires you to get a ticket to see other movies that are not in your film block. I think we are as film makers should continue making movies and not base how good we are at it because of the opinion of 10 people in a jury. I will submit again to this festival.
