Arica Nativa is Heritage Communication and Sustainable Development. Its purpose is to make children, youth and adults fall in love with the natural and cultural treasures that remain heroically in the rural and indigenous area of the planet.

Awards & Prizes

RURAL FEATURE FILMS

The selected films will compete for the Rural Feature Films Tropero Award 2017, consisting in a Tropero sculpture; an alpaca poncho produced by artisans from the Andean altiplano; and the invitation to become a member of the jury in the 2018’s version of Arica Nativa Festival. On behalf of the winning film Arica Nativa will breed seven Queñoa tree (a native tree from south andes) in the Arica and Parinacotas pre cordillera, in cooperation with an Andean community.

RURAL SHORT FILMS

The selected films will compete for the Rural Short Films Tropero Award 2017, consisting in a Tropero sculpture; an alpaca poncho produced by artisans from the Andean altiplano; and the invitation to become a member of the jury in the 2018’s version of Arica Nativa Festival. On behalf of the winning film Arica Nativa will breed seven Queñoa tree (a native tree from south andes) in the Arica and Parinacotas pre cordillera, in cooperation with an Andean community.

JALLALLA: INDIGENOUS CINEMA

The selected films will compete for the Jallalla Tropero Award 2017, consisting in a Tropero sculpture; an alpaca poncho produced by artisans from the Andean altiplano; and the invitation to become a member of the jury in the 2018’s version of Arica Nativa Festival. On behalf of the winning film Arica Nativa will breed seven Queñoa tree (a native tree from south andes) in the Arica and Parinacotas pre cordillera, in cooperation with an Andean community. When receiving this award the winner should add the festival Laurea in further exhibitions of the film.

MALLKU: LANDSCAPE FILMS

The selected films will compete for the Mallku Tropero Award 2017, consisting in a Tropero sculpture; an alpaca poncho produced by artisans from the Andean altiplano; and the invitation to become a member of the jury in the 2018’s version of Arica Nativa Festival. On behalf of the winning film Arica Nativa will breed seven Queñoa tree (a native tree from south andes) in the Arica and Parinacotas pre cordillera, in cooperation with an Andean community.

AJAYU: ANIMATION FILMS

The selected films will compete for the Ajayu Tropero Award 2017, consisting in a Tropero sculpture; an alpaca poncho produced by artisans from the Andean altiplano; and the invitation to become a member of the jury in the 2018’s version of Arica Nativa Festival. On behalf of the winning film Arica Nativa will breed seven Queñoa tree (a native tree from south andes) in the Arica and Parinacotas pre cordillera, in cooperation with an Andean community.

WAWA: FILMS MADE BY AND FOR KIDS

The selected films will compete for the Wawa Tropero Award 2016, consisting in a Tropero sculpture; an alpaca poncho produced by artisans from the Andean altiplano + $500,000 CLP (five hundred thousand Chilean pesos) worth of audiovisual equipment.

FILMIN' ARICA: LOCAL SHORT FILMS

The selected films will compete for the Filmin’ Arica Tropero Award 2016, consisting in a Tropero sculpture; an alpaca poncho produced by artisans from the Andean altiplano + $300,000 CLP (three hundred thousand Chilean pesos).

Rules & Terms

COMPETITION RULES OF ARICA NATIVA 2017

1. Allows the participation of all kinds of films that portray stories of the rural world, the geographical and cultural space that survives outside the cities.

- Rural Features Films: Over 30 minutes
- Rural Short Films: Up to 30 minutes
- Jallalla, Indigenous Films: Any length
- Mallku, Landscapes Films: Up to 30 minutes
- Ajayu, Animation Films: Up to 30 minutes
- Wawa, Films made for and by kids: Up to 5 minute
- Filmin' Arica, Local Films: Up to 30 minutes

2. The participating films must be spoken, dubbed or subtitled in Spanish.

3. The contestants must complete the form available at the following website: www.aricanativa.com, accepting the conditions of the respective competition they choose.

4. The films can be sent digitally through the following websites: www.filmfreeway.com , or by attaching a display link (YouTube or Vimeo) to the web form. Alternatively, they can be sent in a physical format as a DVD (NTSC format) to the following address: Arica Nativa Film Festival, Andrés Bello 1515, Arica, Chile, ZIP Code 1001108. Other sending methods will not be accepted.

5. The deadline for receipt of movies closes September 1st, 2017 at 23:59h.

6. The selection of the films will be carried out by the Contents Committee of the Arica Nativa Film Festival 2017. The results will be released through the following website: www.aricanativa.com and the senders of the selected films will be contacted.

7. Each film cannot participate in more than one category of the Arica Nativa Film Festival 2017.

8. The selected films will compete for the Tropero Award 2017.

9. The evaluation of the films in the competition will be carried out by a jury of special guests of the Arica Nativa Film Festival 2017.

10. The competition results will be released by the president of the jury during the closing ceremony. Then, they will be published in the following website: www.aricanativa.com

11. Arica Nativa is an audiovisual project of the Altiplano Foundation that aims to make the new generations fall in love with the natural and cultural treasures preserved in the rural and indigenous world. The films received in all the competitions of the Arica Nativa Film Festival will have an opportunity to be promoted through the following websites: www.aricanativa.com and www.fundacionaltiplano.cl , as well as the activities of Arica Nativa and/or Altiplano Foundation.
