Continuing we work. Sharing we words. Telling we stories.
In 2006 the U.S. Congress designated the Gullah Geechee Corridor, which runs from Wilmington, NC to Jacksonville, Fl. This corridor is considered “home to one of America’s most unique cultures”. The Horry County Gullah Geechee Heritage Committee hosts annual events to recognize the cultural importance of the Corridor's Congressional designation. The addition of our annual film festival enhances our overall mission spotlighting diverse visual storytelling of the American Community as a whole, and Gullah Geechee culture specifically.
It is the mission of the Gullah Geechee Heritage Film Festival to encourage filmmakers to explore and tell visual stories based on the rich history of Gullah Geechee culture. With a spirit of National and International inclusion, the Gullah/Geechee Heritage Film Festival also strives to spotlight talented filmmakers and story tellers from around the world. This film festival is as much about pride for people of Gullah Geechee descent as it is about our place in the global community.
