The Final Girls is a film collective that explores the intersections of horror film and feminism through curated screenings events.

Set up by Anna Bogutskaya and Olivia Howe, The Final Girls is a response to the lack of creative event and marketing opportunities around genre films, as well as a lack of space for female genre filmmakers and fans.

The Final Girls have been doing events for a year, across venues in London including Prince Charles Cinema, Genesis, ICA, The Castle Cinema and with partners such as Film4, MUBI, Shudder and the BFI.

In Autumn 2018, The Final Girls launched WE ARE THE WEIRDOS, a UK-wide touring programme of 10 short horror films, all directed by women. The programme premiered at the 50th Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival and played at cinemas UK-wide across a 2 week period. You can find more details about the 2017 programme and some of the press coverage here: https://www.thefinalgirls.co.uk/19-we-are-the-weirdos/.

We're now looking for your short films for our 2018 edition of WE ARE THE WEIRDOS. Please note, all films must be directed by a woman or female-identifying director and submissions should be fantasy, thriller or horror films.

Being a part of We Are The Weirdos was honestly the highlight of my filmmaking year. Great venues, a wonderful team, and the opportunity to meet some really amazing filmmakers who are making inspiring work. I couldn't have asked for a more encouraging environment for a female filmmaker moving into the horror genre.

Being part of this programme was such an honour. The Final Girls got us such great exposure - honestly the best exposure I think I've had through a screening programme. All the events were pretty much sold out and the selection and programming worked perfectly. The Final Girls are doing such brilliant things for women in horror. And are thoroughly awesome human beings, who work so hard and create the best vibes!
