Solar Cinema is a mobile solar-powered cinema which has been touring the world for 10 years. In 2018 we will visit the islands of Malta and Gozo in the Mediterranean with a selection of films which will be screened under the stars in several locations like village squares and beaches. ‘Solar Cinema Malta' is a Valletta 2018 project as part of the Cultural Programme’

The Solar Cinema brings unseen films to unusual places and we will be touring the islands from May to October 2018 with weekly or bi-weekly screenings.

We are looking for short films, animations, documentaries and feature films.

A few of our focus themes are:

Voyages & Migration
Stories of travelling, road movies, crossing borders etc.

Island Life
Stories about living on an island.

Water & Environment
Stories about our nature and environment. Films about sustainable energy, climate change and green issues. Films with a special focus on water, in all it's glory.

Mediterranean Culture
Stories about the mediterranean lifestyle and culture.

Films from all over the world are welcome!

Films not in the English language should have English subtitles. Films should preferably be suitable for all audiences.

We will have a strong focus on short films. The film production should be from 2014 or more recent.

Solar Cinema is founder of a world wide network of solar powered cinemas. The best films of the touring festival will also be offered to our partners around the globe to be screened in the most unusual places. Your film might travel to Australia, Brazil, the Netherlands, Croatia and others.

Digital online submission screeners and press material only.

Only finished films will be considered.

Films will be watched by at least 2 members of the programming team. The decision of the festival will be final. Entry fees are not refundable.

If chosen for festival screening, a digital export of the film must be sent via a digital platform (like Dropbox), maximum file size 15 Gb. (.mov or .mp4)

The submitter shall be either a producer, director or authorized agent of the film. All communication will be sent to the person submitting.

All rights must be obtained before submission and applicants must ensure that they have the right to submit the work with regard to third parties. By entering the film you agree to this and the responsibilities involved. We assume no responsibility for violation of copyright law.

Films can have a maximum duration of 100 min.

Short film catergory: up to 49 min.
Feature film category: from 50 min.
