Pile of Bones Underground Film Festival

The Pile of Bones Underground Film Festival celebrates the best of independent underground short film from Canada and beyond!

We proudly celebrate bizarre and inventive creations, and love introducing new audiences to undiscovered underground films. (Check out our state-of-the-art website for lists of past films.)

Films that have premiered at our fest have been invited to screen at our sister festival Videodrunk, as well as at other film festivals across the world, picking up awards and accolades along the way.

We are looking for obscure, exceptional films that are underappreciated and uniquely different. We accept independent films of any genre which are less than 30 minutes in length.

Cet événement d’une nuit célèbre le meilleur du cinéma canadien underground indépendant. Vous en avez assez de voir de bons films ignorés, le festival a été lancé comme un moyen de présenter des productions bizarres/uniques/expérimentales qui ne reçoivent pas la visibilité qu’elles méritent. Nous sommes à la recherche de films obscurs, exceptionnels, hors-normes, et uniques.

Nous acceptons les films indépendants de tout genre qui durent moins de 30 minutes.

Pile of Bones is a non-competitive festival. We do, however, pay screening fees based on IMAA fee schedules and also offer the insanely coveted “Top of the Pile" audience choice award!

The "Short Films" category is open to any independent short film made in Canada or made by a Canadian (preferably both).

The "International Shorts" category is open to filmmakers from outside of Canada. The festival screens several international submissions each year.

Films must be less than 30 minutes in length and have not had a public screening in Regina, Saskatchewan.

All genres will be considered, but we prefer films that are not freely available online (YouTube, Vimeo, etc.).

Films must have been made within the last 2 years, give or take.

Subtitles for non-English films are at the discretion of the filmmaker.

Films will be selected by a jury panel of independent filmmakers.

Selected films must provide the festival with a digital copy of the film in either .mp4 or .mov format.

Le Festival de films Underground Pile of Bones est ouvert à tout court métrage indépendant réalisé au Canada ou réalisé par un résident canadien (de préférence les deux). "International Shorts" sont ouverts aux cinéastes à l'extérieur du Canada.

Les films doivent avoir une durée de moins de 30 minutes et ne pas avoir fait l’objet d’une projection publique à Regina.

Tous les genres seront considérés, mais nous préférons les films qui ne sont pas disponibles en ligne (YouTube, Vimeo, etc.).

Les films doivent avoir été réalisés au cours des 2 dernières années, donner ou prendre.

Les sous-titres pour les films non anglais sont à la discrétion du cinéaste.

Les films seront sélectionnés par un jury composé de cinéastes indépendants.

Les films sélectionnés doivent fournir au festival une copie numérique du film au format .mp4 ou .mov.

An excellent and highly memorable film festival. It is always a pleasant surprise to see all the well crafted, unique, and subversive films that are presented in a single night. The programmers/curators do a great job communicating and organizing the festival. Thank you for letting me screen my film with my 16mm film print!

It was very good communication between artists and the director of the festival.
