The NY Indie Theatre Film Festival presents work from New York City theatre artists defying labels and branching out into recorded media.

2017 was our inaugural year. Over 5 nights of screenings, we presented 2 feature length narratives, 4 documentaries, and over 30 short films, music videos and web series episodes, all created by downtown New York City theatre artists.

The NYITFF is produced by New Ohio Theatre, located on Christopher Street, in Manhattan's West Village.

Rules & Terms

ELIGIBILITY

The NYITFF showcases film/video/web content created by theatre artists. We understand that "created by theatre artists" is a little vague, and the determination of New Ohio Theatre is final.

At least one primary creative artist for the content must be a theatre artist working in New York City. A theatre actor acting in a movie wouldn't by itself qualify. If the actor is the lead producer that would mostly likely qualify. A theatre actor both writing and acting in the content would qualify. "Does the theatre artist involved own the content?" is a question we will examine.

We want to see theatre artists stretching themselves, trying new things. Perhaps things they don't have extensive training for. Or maybe they do, but they also have a body of theatre work, as well.

Film artists have many festivals where they can have their work screened. This festival is for theatre artists. That makes sense, right?

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Online submissions are strongly preferred, either via a password protected Vimeo link or uploaded directly to FilmFreeway. Online submissions must be available to stream, we do not accept any films that must be downloaded.

If you are unable to submit online, you may submit your screener via DVD. If submitting on DVD, entries must be received in our office by the deadline. Deadline dates are not postmark dates. DVD screeners will not be returned. Please do not send self-addressed stamped envelopes.

WORKS IN PROGRESS

Works-in-progress are accepted. Incomplete projects must be clearly labeled. Films should be marked as either a “Rough Cut” or “Work In Progress”. All incomplete materials or changes to be made should be clearly indicated (ex: temporary sound, no color-correction).

The entrant may update their screener up until the final deadline, as long as the link and password for the submission remains the same. However, NYITFF is only responsible for considering the project as it exists at the time of review. We might not revisit updated cuts once a screener has been seen. We do not accept updated cuts via DVD.

No updated cuts will be accepted after the final submission deadline. If selected, the final version of the film must be available by January 2, 2018.

SCREENING FEES

The New York Indie Theatre Film Festival does not pay screening fees. By submitting your content, you acknowledge that the festival will not pay to present your work.

COPYRIGHT & LEGAL TERMS

By entering your film for consideration to the 2018 New York Indie Theatre Film Festival, you authorize that your work is cleared for festival exhibition and accept full legal responsibility for the intellectual property therein. The submitter and all filmmakers associated with the project shall indemnify and hold harmless the New York Indie Theatre Film Festivall, New Ohio Theatre, and any representative or affiliates from and against any and all claims, liabilities, losses, damages, and expenses (including but not limited to attorney's fees, and costs of the court) which may be incurred by reason of any claim involving copyright, trademark, credits, publicity, screening, and loss of or damage to the screening videos entered.

Should your film be accepted in the 2018 New York Indie Theatre Film Festival, you grant NYITFF the right to utilize an excerpt from any film submitted and accepted for exhibition at the Festival for promotional purposes.

All accepted films will screen at least once during the festival, with the option of an encore screening for select films/shorts blocks. All scheduling is purely at the discretion of NYITFF staff.
