Moving-Image-Arts is a collaborative International short film festival created by artists/curators Gerda Cammaer, Devin Shears and Pierre Tremblay.

It is a one-hour juried showcase of short independent films and videos from around the world, taking place at the School of Image Arts, Toronto Metropolitan University in Toronto, Canada.

For the 9th edition of Moving-Image-Arts we are looking for artistic expressions of “UNKNOWNS.” We are particularly interested in short experimental films and videos that envision the unknown in any of the following meanings: what is not known; the unexplored, unheard, unperceived or unrevealed; the obscure, hidden, or unseen; the undefined, unidentified, unspecified; the unrevealed, undisclosed; or simply, uncertainties.

The Festival Committee reserves the right to determine the eligibility of the projects.
For more information, contact: movingimagearts@ryerson.ca

We are looking for independent short video that explore UNKNOWNS in any form or shape.

Films and videos need to be 10 minutes maximum, preferably shorter, and completed after January 1, 2021.

Genres accepted: We except short films of any genre, but preference is given to experimental films and art videos. Work produced for a commercial purpose or within a commercial context is not eligible. Student films are welcome.

There is a submission fee of $1.00, but students and friends of the festival can apply for a code to be exempt from paying the fee by writing to movingimagearts@ryerson.ca

  • I was very pleased to be included in this festival. The curators put together a beautifully varied and inspiring program. I was not able to attend the public screening, but access to the online version was set up well, so getting to see the entire event was easy. I will definitely be looking forward to seeing this festival in the future.

  • This is a very well curated festival, and we were honored to be part of their recent "Renewal" themed program with our film, "Such Complexity/Air & Wood." This festival has an expansive conception of experimental films in general, and of their thematic rubric, which created a fascinating program where the films illuminated one another, as well as the curators' comments. We will be submitting again when we have a film that illustrates one of their themes. Fingers crossed!

I am so honored to have my abstract experimental short, LULLABY FOR A PANDEMIC selected for Moving-Image-Arts International Short Film Festival. Thank you for supporting truly avant-garde, underground, personal and experimental hand-made filmmaking.
