The Highway 61 Film Festival is a multiple-day celebration of the magic of movies that was established in 2011 as a means of supporting and promoting independent films and filmmakers from all along Highway 61 and beyond. Taking place annually in October, the Festival is held in Pine City, Minnesota, an area known for its emerging arts and culture scene.

Awards & Prizes

The Highway 61 Film Festival awards cash prizes for first place in six categories, and recognizes second-place finishers.

• Action/Horror Feature - 1st place $100
• Action/Horror Short - 1st place $50
• Animation Short OR Feature - 1st place $100
• Comedy Feature - 1st place $100
• Comedy Short - 1st place $50
• Documentary Feature - 1st place $100
• Documentary Short - 1st place $50
• Drama Feature - 1st place $100
• Drama Short - 1st place $50
• Student Short (ONLY for filmmakers 18 and younger) - 1st place $50
• "Made in Minnesota" (short/feature films shot in Minnesota) - 1st place $100

EARLY DEADLINE June 15, 2017 (postmarked by). LATE DEADLINE July 1, 2017 (postmarked by).


Please note that the Student Short category is open ONLY to filmmakers 18 and under.
"Made in Minnesota" category is open ONLY to films shot in MInnesota.
