Rules & Terms

ELIGIBILITY, RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR SUBMISSION:
1. All short films / documentaries / animation films / music video shot on film or video (Digital format) between 1st January 2012 to 31st April 2017 within a running duration of 60 seconds to 45 minutes are eligible for the festival.

2. All documentary film (less than 45 minutes in length) must be submitted to the Institute on a single disc (DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-R DL, DVD+R DL) or uploaded on our website www.giiffa.com. The Institute reserves the right to disqualify, without refund of any or all submission fees previously collected from Applicant, any Documentary Film that is not submitted using one of these formats. If the Film is submitted in multiple parts on multiple discs, the Institute reserves the right to judge the Film based on the first disc included, with no further obligation to view the contents of the remaining discs.

3. All Short Films (less than 30 minutes in length) and Animation Films (less than 15 minutes in length) must be submitted to the Institute on a single disc (DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-R DL, DVD+R DL) or uploaded on our website www.giiffa.com. The Institute reserves the right to disqualify, without refund of any or all submission fees previously collected from Applicant, any Short Film | Animation Film that is not submitted using one of these formats. If multiple short films are included on a single disc, the Institute reserves the right to judge only the first film included on the disc, with no further obligation to view the remaining contents of the disc.

4. All Music Videos (less than 8 minutes in length) must be submitted to the Institute on a single disc (DVD- R, DVD+R, DVD-R DL, DVD+R DL) or uploaded on our website www.giiffa.com. The Institute reserves the right to disqualify, without refund of any or all submission fees previously collected from Applicant, any Music Video that is not submitted using one of these formats. If multiple short films are included on a single disc, the Institute reserves the right to judge only the first film included on the disc, with no further obligation to view the remaining contents of the disc.

5. It is the sole responsibility of the Applicant to ensure that any submitted disc plays in its entirety on an industry standard DVD or Blu-ray player prior to submitting it to the Festival. In the event that a submitted disc does not play in an industry-standard standard DVD or Blu-ray player, the Institute will attempt, but is under no obligation, to contact the Applicant using the contact information provided on the submission form in an effort to obtain a replacement copy of the Film. The Institute reserves the right to disqualify, without refund of any or all submission fees previously collected from the Applicant, any Film for which the initially-submitted disc does not play on an industry-standard DVD or Blu-ray player.

6. It is the sole responsibility of the Applicant to ensure that the submitted disc arrives at the shipping destination provided to the Applicant upon completion of the submission form. In the event that a submitted disc does not arrive at the designated shipping destination within the deadline window selected by the Applicant, the Institute will attempt, but is under no obligation, to contact the Applicant using the contact information provided on the submission form in an effort to obtain a submission copy of the Film. The Institute reserves the right to disqualify, without refund of any or all submission fees previously collected from the Applicant, any Film that does not arrive at the designated shipping destination within the deadline window selected by the Applicant.

7. In the event that the Applicant remits an updated version of the Film to the Institute after having submitted a previous version of the Film to the Institute during the same calendar year, the Institute is under no obligation to view any or all of the updated version.

8. Applicants submitting Films that contain significant non-English spoken dialogue must provide on-screen English subtitles. The Institute reserves the right to disqualify, without refund of any or all submission fees previously collected from the Applicant, any Film that contains significant non-English spoken dialogue that does not include accompanying on-screen English subtitles.

9. In order to be considered for the Festival, the Applicant must fill out the Festival submission form located at http://www.giiffa.com or http://giiffa.talentnext.com. The Institute reserves the right to disqualify, without refund of any or all submission fees previously collected from the Applicant, any Film that is not submitted through one of these platforms.

10. The Institute reserves the right to disqualify, without refund of any or all submission fees previously collected from the Applicant, any Film with a submission form that is considered to be delinquent due to the non-payment of any or all submission fees. The Institute may attempt, but is under no obligation, to contact the Applicant using the contact information provided on the submission form in an effort to bring the payment status of the account up-to-date. The Institute disavows any responsibility for, and will not be held responsible for, any failure to contact the Applicant and inform the Applicant of any payment delinquency or other deficiency of a submission form.

11. If a film is not eligible to be entered in any category (short film, documentary film, animation film and music video) will be eligible for Critic Film and non-competition section.

12. Films may be entered by any educational organization, agency, individual producer or director.

13. Selection of films / videos for GIIFFA 2017 will be done by a committee whose decision will be final. However, Festival Authorities reserve the right to accept or reject any film that is likely to offend sentiments, feelings or sensibilities of any caste, community, religion and sect or is likely to promote racism or ill will in the society.

14. A complete screening schedule of selected films shall be put up on the festival website: around May 20, 2017.

15. Transportation and insurance costs of DVDs/BLURAYs, related documents, photographs and publicity materials from the country of origin to the Festival Office shall be borne by the applicant.

16. GIIFFA 2017 would be allowed to use all photographs and publicity materials received along with the Entry and the same will not be returned to the entrants.

17. The Festival Authorities will have the right to screen (maximum 5 screening) in different cities of India on non-commercial basis.

18. For promotional / publicity purposes, excerpts from any film entered in the festival may be shown on any Television network / Internet or related media during the festival period.

19. Entry Forms with incorrect / inadequate / illegible / ambiguous particulars will not be considered.

20. DVDs submitted for selection will be considered as final and no changes will be entertained after submission. It is the sole responsibility of the applicant to submit DVDs without any physical / quality defects.

21. Prize and certificate will be awarded to the director (s) or producer(s) of the film.

22. All shortlisted entries will receive a certificate. (Cost of certificate production and courier charges will cover the submitter or Director or producer)

23. Anybodycansubmitoneormorethanoneentry.Thereisnolimitforsubmission.

24. Films once selected and submitted for the final screening will not be allowed to be withdrawn under any circumstances, until the Festival is over.

25. The Festival proposes to have a maximum of 5 screenings per film as per FIAPF Regulations for non- competitive festivals and competitive specialised festivals which allow for a maximum of 5 screenings per film.

26. It is the sole responsibility of the Applicant to secure authorization and permission from the copyright owner(s) of any and all copyrighted content or materials included within the submitted Film. The Institute expressly disavows any responsibility for, and will not be held responsible for, any unauthorized inclusion of any copyrighted content or materials within or relating to the submitted Film, including any content or materials that are or may become the basis for any third party claims for copyright infringement. The Institute reserves the right to disqualify, without refund of any or all submission fees previously collected from the Applicant, any Film with any unauthorized inclusion of copyrighted content or materials. In the event that any claim, dispute, action or proceeding shall be brought or asserted by any person or entity that alleges that the Film makes unauthorized or unlawful use of any copyrighted content or material, Applicant shall fully indemnify and defend the Institute, the Festival, and each of their representatives and affiliates from any liability in connection therewith and from any fees and expenses, including but not limited to attorneys’ fees, that any of them may incur in connection therewith.

27. It is the sole responsibility of the Applicant to secure authorization and permission from the owner(s) of any and all trademarked content or materials included within the submitted Film. The Institute expressly disavows any responsibility for, and will not be held responsible for, any unauthorized inclusion of any trademarked content or materials within or relating to the submitted Film, including any content or materials that are or may become the basis for any third party claims for trademark infringement, trademark dilution or unfair competition. The Institute reserves the right to disqualify, without refund of any or all submission fees previously collected from the Applicant, any Film with any unauthorized inclusion of trademarked content or materials. In the event that any claim, dispute, action or proceeding shall be brought or asserted by any person or entity that alleges that the Film makes unauthorized or unlawful use of any trademarked content or material, Applicant shall fully indemnify and defend the Institute, the Festival, and each of their representatives and affiliates from any liability in connection therewith and from any fees and expenses, including but not limited to attorneys’ fees, that any of them may incur in connection therewith.

28. The Institute is under no obligation to provide to the Applicant or any other representative of the Film any comments or feedback regarding the submitted Film, any information relating to the manner in which the Film is, will be, or was reviewed; any views that the Institute or any reviewers of the Film may hold concerning the Film; any reasons why the Film, should it not be accepted for exhibition at the Festival, was not accepted; or any other information relating to the Festival’s review, consideration and/or selection process regarding the Film specifically or submissions generally beyond the information set forth in these Rules and Regulations. The Institute disavows any responsibility for, and will not be held responsible or liable for, the contents of any internal comments or feedback regarding any Film that are or may be obtained by the Applicant or any other representative of the Film; any communications by any representative of the Institute or the Festival relating to the Film or the Festival selection process; the manner in which the Film shall be, is or was considered and reviewed; the identity or identities of any specific reviewers of the Film; and/or any failure on the part of the Institute or the Festival to provide the Applicant or any other representative(s) of the Film with information concerning the Institute’s consideration and/or review of the Film.

a. For any duties, fees and charges accrued from the transporting of the trophy, will be covered by the recipient, not the Festival organizers.

29. The applicant agrees that GIACE shall have the right and permission to use and announce the name, picture, voice, background and biographical data, photograph, testimonial, or other likeness and/or prize information or personal exposition (and/or any edited portion thereof), and/or any information contained in his/her Entry for promotional, advertising, publicity, commercial and/or other purposes in relation to the distribution of film in any and all media, now or hereafter known, including but not limited to all digital, electronic & social media (like Facebook, Vimeo, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+ etc) computer, audio and audiovisual media (whether now existing or hereafter devised), in any language, throughout the world, in perpetuity and in any manner, for trade, advertising, promotional, commercial, or any other purposes without further review, notice, approval, consideration, or compensation of Director/Producer.

30. Participation in the Festival implies acceptance of these Regulations.

    Highly disappointed, badly organised, I will NOT recommend to fellow filmmakers since there were lot of mismanagement in regards to screening, tech issues, hyped media coverage, etc.. apart from venue.
