The goal of the FWIFS is to promote grassroots collaboration between and among filmmakers. We want to call attention to the quality work produced within the independent film movement. We want to do our part to provide a platform for independent artists to share their work and unique voices; to network and gain encouragement from their peers.

Awards & Prizes

A panel of independent Judges will determine the category winners.
The basic categories are as follows:
Best "Domestic" Feature - For the purposes of this festival, a "domestic" film is produced in Texas.
Best "Domestic" Short - Again, the film must be produced in Texas to be considered in the "domestic" category.
Best "Foreign" Feature - This would be a film produced in any one of the 49 states that is not Texas, or any US Territory.
Best "Foreign" Short - Same rule as above. Produced in the US, anywhere outside of Texas.
Best International Feature - Any film produced outside of the US or any of it's territories.
Best International Short - Same as above.
If we receive enough submissions to form a category (3 or more), we will present awards for the best feature and short in the following categories:
Science Fiction
Music Video/Musical Film
Web Series

Audience Choice

We reserve the right to adjust award categories as the season develops.

Rules & Terms

Films must be submitted via FilmFreeway, via high resolution download, or online screener accepted by FilmFreeway.
The submission fee will be required for all films submitted. We do not provide fee waivers.

Officially selected films must be submitted on DVD (NTSC), Blu-Ray, or digital format (MP4, MOV). Digital files may be provided via Dropbox or any similar service, or via the download process of your video hosting platform (Vimeo or Youtube). It is the submitter's responsibility to provide a viable screening copy. Fort Worth Indie Film Showcase will not "rip" videos from Youtube, Vimeo, or any other video hosting platform. Failure to provide a screening copy will result in removal from the screening schedule.
Films must be available for screening during the publicized dates of the Fort Worth Indie Film Showcase.
Entrant confirms and warrants required legal authority to submit the entry into the Festival and to use all music, images, and content in the entry.
(This means that you either own or have permission to use everything in the film.)
All entries must be either in English or subtitled in English.
Foreign language films without English subtitles will not be screened.
Only complete entries (including entry form, payment, and screeners) will be considered.
Please complete your submission via FilmFreeway.
Please double check your information prior to submission.
The FWIFS is not responsible for incorrect wording in publications, promotions, or awards if the entry form is incorrect or illegible.
We will consider works in progress. However, the final screening copies must be received no later than two weeks before the showcase.
If the running time of the final screening copy is significantly different than the review copy (such that it will not fit in the originally assigned time slot), the FWIFS reserves the right to adjust or change the screening time and date of the film.

Please send two copies of the film on DVD (NTSC) or Blu-Ray, playable on standard commercial Blu-Ray players (not a data disk with a file of the movie).
Please check the disk before sending it.
If you choose to submit a digital copy of your film for the screening, please ensure any links you provide also contain download functionality.

DO NOT send press kits with your submission.

Accepted films will receive instructions for submitting promotional materials with the acceptance notification.
DO send your synopsis and, if desired, a cover letter introducing you/your film.
DVDs will not be returned via mail. (If you attend the festival and wish to have your disc returned, just ask after the screening. We will be happy to oblige)

When requested please send DVD or Blue Ray to…

Please monitor FilmFreeway for the status of your submission.
Email will be the primary means of communications. If you have not received notifications shortly after the final submission deadline passes, check your spam or junk mail folder. If the messages did not route to one of those folders then contact the festival director with an alternate email address.
If you prefer some other means of electronic communications, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate your reasonable request.

I am quite new to the Film Festival circuit. This year I had the opportunity to participate in several, nationally and internationally. I also had the privilege to attend a few. The Fort Worth Indie Film Showcase was a WONDERFUL experience. Bill Hass and his staff made us feel so welcome, communication was excellent. I love that they have several categories giving a variety of genres an opportunity to be recognized. FWIFS understands and supports the independent film community and we're very grateful. We hope to return. Sincere Thanks!

    Response from festival:

Thank you Christina, we are very glad that you enjoyed yourself both at the festival and around Fort Worth also. I remember talking to you about getting out and seeing the town with your family. Based on that conversation we are looking at ways to expand our activities to areas unique to Fort Worth such as the Historic Stockyards, so we hope you do come back!

The Fort Worth Indie Film Showcase is a fantastic film festival for filmmakers and film lovers. Our short film premiered at FWIFS and it was truly a wonderful experience. Festival Director Bill Hass and the entire staff created an environment that was warm, welcoming and very nurturing for filmmakers. This is the kind of festival you want to support and return to again and again and again. Expect great films, great people and a unique, feel-good experience in Fort Worth! Loved it!

I submitted to this festival based on the best recommendation you can get-other fimmakers that I respect recommended it highly. And you know what-they were right!

I had a great time at this fest. Festival director Bill Hass is a filmmaker himself, and I think that must inform why so much of the festival was so well done. There were good crowds, nice projection, a great mix of some filmmakers I knew and a ton I didn’t know. And there was a lot of attention put into the detail of making sure the filmmakers not only had a great screening experience, but also had a good time. And I had a good time. This is absolutely a festival I’ve put on my top 10 list of festivals that I simply must submit something to every year. Bill, Tanya, Fran and all the volunteers really care about independent film and independent filmmakers. Thanks for having my film!
