From 2nd until the 9th of November 2017 will be held in Barcelona the 24th edition of the International Environmental Film Festival . A festival that generates a positive social change using the cinema and all the artistic expressions.
Barcelona presents the latest film productions performed worldwide with environmental issues and helps to promote and support this kind of cinema, filmmakers and artists creating a meeting point for all these professionals .
Created in 1993 FICMA is the longest Film Festival in the world about environment issues and raise awareness using this kind of productions to cause a positive social change providing tools to do it and reaching all kinds of people and all age groups.
FICMA has created different types of activities and it happens in different places of Barcelona city: commercial cinemas, universities and museums.

0 | INTRODUCTION
The International Environmental Film Festival (FiCMA) organized by ACCIONS 3E (a non-profit Association) in Barcelona (Spain) and in Leon (Mexico) was established in 1993. The aim of the Festival is to promote and publicise audiovisual productions on environmental issues during the week of the Festival and all the rest of the year.
Being the oldest Environmental Film Festival in the world and with a compromise towards current environmental issues, FiCMA has started to gradually reduce CO2 emissions since its 15th edition. Accordingly to this, FiCMA has reduced the printing of the festival catalogue by 100% and that of the printed schedules and posters by 70%. Our website and social media is now the main point of access to all content and downloadable information.
1 | PARTICIPATION
This regulation is in force from the beginning of FiCMA, and it regulates the participation in the 24th International Environmental Film Festival that will be held in Catalonia, in the city of Barcelona from 2017, November 2nd -9th.
The festival is open to any natural or legal person, of any age, who has productions completed after January 1st, 2016. If anyone wants to submit a work completed before the aforementioned date, it can only be submitted to the International Focus section. If the film is a worldwide premiere or it has not yet been released in Spain, it can also be submitted to the Premiere section. (Is possible to submit the same film in different Sections)
The subject of the films or videos must be the environment. Environment understood as being the sum of everything that surrounds us and how it affects and imposes conditions on our life circumstances in special. This includes all natural, social, cultural and human rights values that influence life on our planet at a given moment and place. That is, not only the space where we find life but the living beings, objects, water, earth, air and the relations between them, as well as such intangible elements as culture, that take place in that space. The categories and sections included are:
a) OFFICIAL SECTION
(Productions completed after January 1stt, 2017)
• DOCUMENTARY (more than 60 minutes)
• DOCUMENTARY SHORT (less than 60 minutes)
• SHORT FILMS FICTION (animation included)
b) PREMIERE Worldwide premiere, European premiere, Spanish premiere or Catalonia premiere
(Documentary, feature film, short film and animation)
The year of production of this films can be before than 2016
This non-competitive section is open to documentaries and fictions on current issues and/or of
general interest. Any documentary, regardless of its production date, may be entered in this section. Documentaries entered in the official section in competition may also be entered in this section by ticking the corresponding box on the entry form.
d) PETIT FICMA AND EVERY CLASSROOM A CINEMA
This section is focussed for children and schools. After the Festival the films of this section (documentaries and short films no longer than 15 minutes) will be screened at schools. (More information point 9 of those rules)
2 | FILM SUBMISSION
There is no entry fee. The deadline for entry submissions is June 16th, 2017, 00:00h.
Submission must include:
1. Entry form correctly completed and SIGNED sent at: firstname.lastname@example.org
2. Brief synopsis in Word or txt format sent at: email@example.com
3. Screening copy for selection on DVD (sent following instructions point 6 | DELIVERY AND RETURN) or link by VIMEO, YOUTUBE, DROPBOX…. Link has to be send at: firstname.lastname@example.org or by our recommended digital platforms (point 3.1)
3.1 SUBMISSIONS ARE ALSO ACCEPTED ONLINE THROUGH THE FOLLOWING PLATFORMS: where you will be able to send the movie more conveniently than through postal service. (We recommend this option)
3 | SELECTION
All selected productions will also be notified by e-mail.
The Selection of the films will be notified on the Festival’s official website: www.ficma.com on a selected films list update. If your film is not on the list will mean the film has been not selected
FILMS OR VIDEOS CONTAINING PUBLICITY OF A COMPANY, INDUSTRY OR INSTITUTION WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED

4 | JURY
The Festival Jury will be composed by a shortlist of three professionals in the audiovisual and film industry, as well as linked to the scientific and / or environmental world, from outside the organization, and for each of the genres in the official competition section.
The jury's verdict will be final and sovereign and will present the related records to the organization, according to the scoring criteria established. In addition, the jury reserves the right to declare a maximum of one Mention by category and reward "ex aequo" if deemed appropriate.
In any case, the jury may declare the prizes void..
5 | AWARDS
El Sol de Oro (Golden Sun) is the highest award of FICMA since its inception 24 years ago. It is the oldest environmental film award in the world, so it has an ethical / professional value far superior to an economic level.
El Sol de Oro is a statuette designed exclusively for the Festival by the Catalan artist Luesma Vega.
The Festival’s Sol de Oro Awards are delivered to the winners of each of the genres that are competing in the Official Section of the Festival.
FICMA organization, in turn, delivers from its inception, the ESPECIAL SOL DE ORO of FICMA to a person or entity for his/its career and/ or professional path throughout his/its life, for helping to educate, sensitize and raise consciousness in values of respect for the environment and human-and-animal life.
In the closing ceremony of FICMA other prizes or honorable mentions may also be delivered in FICMA’s own name or other national and / or international institutions, the latter being responsible for both the choice and delivery of the corresponding prizes or mentions.

6 | DELIVERY AND RETURN
The applicants are responsible for the shipping expenses. The festival will not be held responsible for the damage or loss of the films; therefore it’s recommended that no originals are sent. The films sent from abroad by courier or airmail must be marked with: “FOR CULTURAL PURPOSE. NO COMMERCIAL VALUE”

Selection copies o will not be returned and will be stored in the Festival’s archive. The shipment of the screening copy is to be paid by the sender. The screening copies will be returned upon written request, specifying the destination and return date (distributors, producers, other festivals, etc.)

7 | SELECTED MOVIES
The films will only be sent to the addresses in section 6 through one of these methods:
1. Online (digital platform) o a download link
2. By postal service
3. By courier
The Festival does not pay screening fees to the selected movies in the official section.
Once we have selected and programmed the movie, it will not be possible to withdraw it from the Festival program. If it is withdrawn, the fees of the renting of the theatre will have to be covered. To accept and to sign the entry form is to accept this penalization.
Each film can be screened twice during the festival, plus an extra time for the press. The Selection Board of the festival will not have to see films submitted after the deadline.
8 | FESTIVAL ON TOUR
For over 15 years, due to its international, educational and awareness character, and thanks to the cooperation agreement with the United Nations Program for Environment (UNEP) for Latin America and the Caribbean Area, the FICMA organizes exhibitions of its programming in different cities of Spain and Latin America with the name, "FICMA’s EXHIBITION" bringing a message of awareness, by using the audiovisual and cinema as an instrument. Acceptance of the Rules of FICMA authorizes the Festival (unless expressly requested in writing by the author or producer of the work denying this permission) to project in the exhibitions, some of the films nominated and selected for this year’s and previous FICMA’s awards.
Regulations remains in force in FICMA’s exhibitions and these will always be a informative work for the general public and the access to these screenings will be free and open.

9 | PETIT FICMA: EVERY CLASSROOM A CINEMA
In order to bring the movies and the environment to educational centers in Spain and Latin America, and thanks to the combined work of FICMA with national and supranational institutions dedicated to the world of education and to raise consciousness, and in order to promote and contribute to increase the environmental education of students in schools, colleges and universities, the FICMA, under the slogan "Educate Entertaining" selects different productions among the ones presented to competition to compound a program out-of-competion called "Every classroom a cinema".
This program will take educational audiovisual contents segmented by topics such as Climate Change, Renewable Energy, Water, Forests, Oceans and Seas, Food, Sustainability, Animal Respect, Waste, among others, to schools during the Festival, and throughout the school year 2016/2017, making specific recommendations and providing data sheets by age to teachers.
The purpose of “Each Classroom a Cinema” is to promote environmental education through new technologies and to introduce both in the school world.
10 | MARKET
From this edition, the International Environmental Film Festival relaunches the market for the films selected at the Festival. National and international distributors will have access to all the films interested in to find distribution – If you are interested to permit this Access at your film you can mark in the entry form what kind of market you are interested in national (Spain) or international. (More information about the distributor will be in our website)
11 | PROMOTION
The Festival and ACCIONS 3E may use three-minute extracts from the films for TV broadcast. The producer will provide the festival the promotional material of the film (trailer, poster, press kit, photos, etc.).
The Festival will publicise all films of the different sections of FiCMA through print and audiovisual media as much as possible, the owner of the film should mention its selection and/or the Festival Prize, if awarded, during the promotion of the film (Film credits, trailer, poster, press kit, official Website, etc.).
IMPORTANT: The signature of the author and / or producer and / or distributor of the work in the registration form of the 23rd International Festival of Environmental Film, means legal acceptance of the whole regulations of FICMA.
The Festival organization reserves the right to change the dates of the event if necessary.
FINAL CLARIFICATION: when in doubt in the interpretation, or any situation not mentioned / reflected / referred to in this Regulation it will be resolved by the Festival’s organization, taking into account the customs and ethical codes of film festivals, as well as the legal and law aspects concerning the Spanish legislation.
In the event of any amendment of the Regulations, they shall be reported to the different stakeholders (authors, producers, distributors, jurors or other organizations involved in this year’s edition.
