The Emerging Filmmakers student film competition is an offshoot of the Dakota Digital Film Festival intended to reward and recognize young filmmakers throughout the upper great plains region

Student filmmakers may submit their films independently for a nominal fee or films submitted through their school, teacher and produced as a class project may waive the entry fee. To be eligible, submissions:
• Must have been produced by individuals residing in, at the time of production, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Montana, Manitoba, or Saskatchewan.
• Must have a Total Run Time no longer than 5 min. (under 2 min. is preferred).
• Must have been produced by individual(s) under the age of 24 years of age or while enrolled as a full-time student.

Dakota Digital Film Festival, at its sole discretion, will select the top three films from eligible entries and one of the films will be chosen as the Emerging Filmmaker overall winner and included as an “Official Selection” for screening during the Dakota Digital Film Festival.

Dakota Digital Film Festival is dedicated to supporting the work of emerging and talented filmmakers and video artists by promoting local video/film production and by expanding awareness of professional careers within the industry.

The mission of this festival is to support and encourage filmmaking and audio/video production in all forms by providing a venue for professionals in the industry and students to meet and show their work.

Awards & Prizes

$500 1st place film (will also be included as an “Official Selection” for screening during the Dakota Digital Film Festival.

$150 3rd place film

Rules & Terms

Films must be submitted through FilmFreeway. Entries from independent filmmakers must submit a $10.00 entry fee for each film submitted. However, entries submitted through a school teacher may waive the entry fee on up to five (5) films. All entries must be received no later than 4:00 p.m. CST Fri., February 24th, 2017.

Dakota Digital Film Festival, at its sole discretion, will select the top three films from eligible entries and one of the films will be chosen as the Emerging Filmmaker overall winner and included as an “Official Selection” for screening during the Dakota Digital Film Festival.

Terms of Eligibility:
• Must have been produced by individual(s) under the age of 24 years of age or while enrolled as a full-time student.
• Must have been produced by individuals residing in, at the time of production, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Montana, Manitoba, or Saskatchewan.
• Must have a Total Run Time no longer than 5 min. (under 2 min. is preferred).
• Must have been completed within the past two years of submission date.
• Any genre is accepted; however, content must be non-commercial.

Entrants are responsible for obtaining all necessary rights and releases for public screening of their work. Each entrant warrants to DDFF that their entry:
• Is completely an original work of the entrant(s) or other filmmaker(s) represented by the entrant.
DD• Is not currently distributed in any media or format, with the exception of other film festival submissions and screenings.
• Is not in violation/conflict of the trademark, copyright, or any other rights of any person or entity.

Each entrant shall retain the copyright in and to their respective entry. However, by entering, each entrant acknowledges and agrees that DDFF shall have the right to use entrant’s names, photographs, likenesses, voice, and/or biographical information for FF programming, publication, publicity, advertising and all other promotional purposes without compensation, review, or approval.

An entry may be declared ineligible for any of the following reasons:
• Contains content determined by DDFF, in its sole discretion, as indecent, inappropriate, morally objectionable or otherwise unfit for dissemination or broadcast.
• Contains material which may infringe or violate any law or any rights of a third party.
• Does not meet basic technical standards (e.g. poor audio or video quality, unstable playback).
• Does not adhere to stated Total Run Time requirements.
• Does not satisfy these Submission Guidelines in any respect.

By submitting an entry, or entries, entrants agree to these Emerging Filmmakers Submission Guidelines and acknowledge that the decisions of the DDFF officials will be binding and final. DDFF, its affiliates, employees, directors, and volunteers will not be responsible for late, lost, incomplete, illegible, damaged, technically corrupt, or misdirected entries. Submitted materials may not be acknowledged or returned due to the volume of materials submitted. DDFF is administered by Dakota Media Access and is managed by a volunteer committee.
