Experiencing Interruptions?

Eixos (Axis)

"Axis" is a sci-fi web-series of 6 Episodes (5 to 8mn each) set in post-apocalyptic Brasilia. In 2060, Brazil has been devastated by political unrest, violent repression and civil wars. The world has been thrown in disarray and all that's left of the modernist capital are ruins and dust. A handful of people have continued to haunt the inhospitable cerrado but, one by one, they start disappearing. Cassia is a loner and introverted young woman who was happy to scavenge for scraps of old electronics with her best friend Igor - until the day he too goes missing. Cassia begins a frantic search for her friend, roaming what's left of the city for clues. In this haste, she meets Inês - an aide from a local religious commune - who decides to join forces and stick with the weird, loner girl she's seen around town, she might just be able to crack the armor Cassia hides in. Little can they imagine the mysteries the old capital still holds.

Director Statement

We are used to seeing post-apocalyptic tales from a North American perspective - but as a Brazilian series, Eixos (Axis) offers a new point of view in the genre, a different world and culture. A science-fiction and fantasy fan myself, I became very passionate about this story, I wanted to be able to tell something from a unique perspective. As someone who spent most of her life jumping from country to country, I had always been curious about the effect of cultures in storytelling, the effect a different voice could have on a story. I absorbed sci-fi and fantasy series, books and movies from all over the world, and yet I rarely felt represented in them. With Eixos, we sought to built on the local culture surrounding us, our religions, our costumes, our quirks. The project also inspired many young women filmmakers in our city, gathering a mostly feminine crew, it was a story that offered them a voice, it could express their ideas, their culture, their discontent with the world. As such, Eixos became an experiment and a passion - it strives to show a new world, other possibilities, to go beyond what we have been taught to see.
