(drifting inside) TARRAFE
Based on the first journey to my grandparents land, this short film is a visual and sonic tale exploring the symbol of the mangrove forest as place-making, as ‘a desire for something else’, inspired by the Caribbean perspectives on it. By choosing in its haunting poetics and melodies to go for the literal meaning of a ‘threat’ like the Portuguese colonisers saw it (fear for diseases, unreachable to walk in, unpredictable structures...), tension arises slowly, as the (tangible/psychological/metaphysical) forest grows closer to family members differently affected by it.
