Sometimes when life gets very stressful I begin to (in an ironic way) fantasize about maybe that comical scenario where an anvil would just fall on me from atop a building. Although I'm never really serious, I thought, "what if those jokes we make to ourselves came true?"
Max's character isn't joking when he feels he wants to be alive no longer... but he doesn't realize that he has manifested his wish. I kind of like how the tile 'DREAD' goes hand in hand with the inevitable doom he create himself... It's like quicksand.
