Mark Decile a co-founder of Dexile Studios was born in Cincinnati where he found a passion for filmmaking in his freshman year of high school. Now it’s his sophomore year, and he takes on to direct his second short film.
On set, this film was a pain to make. As this is my second short film I'm still heavily learning about the filmmaking process and all of the minor problems. *Cough* Boom Op Noise *Cough* In the end it's always a blast because you're working with your high school friends, and making tons of inside jokes!
The hardest thing for me was the creative challenge. In a week of post-prod I could wake up Monday and be an editor, but on Tuesday I'll be a VFX artist. Then I'll be a director in a week. I love being all of these artists, but it's having the stamina to swap professions and to always learn more about every step, and that makes it challenging.
"Double Edged Sword" is a personal project for me since the story came from one of my long distance relationships in middle-school. I loved and hated it. You are able to meet amazing people through the internet and social media, but it comes at a cost when you try to take it to get in a relationship. The relationship didn't end well, but I made it worse for myself because I believed that the internet could hold us together. This lie led me to make this film, and I'm not saying that people shouldn't do long distance relationships, but I am warning them of how hard it is.
Lastly, I'd have to say thanks for everyone that has worked on the project and especially the cast because it was their first film.
