Juniper (Jiana) Johnson (b. Inglewood, CA, 2000) is a West African-American artist who draws inspiration from the emotional undercurrents of life. Often described as a multi-hyphenate, she explores the labyrinthine nature of blackness through film and literature, probing at themes of identity, youth/early adulthood, and the beauty of kinship.
She’s a Character Assistant for Disney, a Lambda Literary Screenwriting Fellow, and a Ringling College graduate with a BFA in Creative Writing and minors in Film Studies, Photography, and Art History.
Her solo exhibition “The Jubilant Art of Being Black” exhibited at Project Space 340 in Sarasota, FL, and her more recent work “Heavy is the Head” exhibited at the Deborah M. Cooley Photography Center in Sarasota, FL. Her 35mm film photography is set for publication in the Burrow Press special print anthology titled, What’s Mine of Wilderness? Coming in 2023.
