Experiencing Interruptions?

Video_67B

Video_67B is part two of a trilogy of visualisations of the musical piece "an opposition_2 groups" by Dutch composer Martijn Tellinga (martijntellinga.nl), which consists of sound clusters played by two groups of musicians on various instruments following an elaborate yet incomprehensible plan. This plan includes long pauses, during which the atmosphere of the situation (a live recording in front of audience) can still be heard. One aim of the visualisation was to make visible this continuity of time, which (at least according to one interpretation) flows independent from the events it might harbour.
The sound appears to consist of isolated clusters at first glance, but when listened to repeatedly, connections and even a to some extent meaningful dramaturgy emerge. Since a more vivid visualisation could prevent this from being recognized by the listener, the images are reduced in variety and color.
