Experiencing Interruptions?

DEN KSECHNO 1974 - 2024

My mother, a refugee from Famagusta, Cyprus, fled her city at the age of nineteen due to heavy shelling while my uncles stayed back to fight. In 1974, an era with a lot of turmoil between Turkey, Cyprus and Greece, ended with a Turkish invasion - on 20th of July - and occupation of 36% of the islands territory literally cutting the capital in half.
Since early age i remember looking at the ghost city of Famagusta through fixed binoculars from a view tower near the barricade. In 2024 marking the darkest 50 year “anniversary” since the war, i followed my mother’s steps and took her on a journey into the occupied territories for the first time in 50 years. While she was 100 meters nearby, she never managed to reach her house. Memories Awaken.
