Death is ___ is an interactive documentary about people whose lives revolve around death. In Singapore's conservative Asian society, death is very much a taboo topic. Uncover the hidden stories of undertakers, terminally ill patients and others through interactive elements and fill in your thoughts on what death is to you.

Director Biography - Sarah Thiam

Kai Ying Liu is the producer and text editor. She was responsible for all administrative duties and wrote the text in the documentary with Yvette.

Sarah Thiam is the video director and designer. She worked with Yuxin on the overall look of the site and created the hand-drawn illustrations.

Yuxin Peh is the video editor and web-development coordinator. She worked closely with our web developer, Sim Boon Long, to piece the website together.

Yvette Kan is the director of photography and infographics editor. She conceptualised the infographics and wrote the text in the documentary with Kai Ying.

Director Statement

We started this project after witnessing the confusion and regrets the deaths of our grandparents have brought. Death is a topic avoided in our families but we realised that treating it as a taboo created even more sadness and problems when we had to face it.

We hope the people we featured have touched you with their stories and we just want to say thank you for all your support thus far.
