DAY ONE

After returning home from London to New Zealand, Sam has to mentally handle the wrath of 2 weeks in managed isolation but starts to develop "some kind of time dysmorphia". The other side of Sam's miserable and uncertain brain, the positive side, shows up to assist the left and darker side of Sam's brain through the 2 weeks some call "hell for your mind". Sam realises that Sam needs his whole self to get through a dark and sombre moment in his life but when the more positive side of Sam's brain becomes too much for him, that also has its downfall. Sam discovers learning to work with himself is always the best outcome in any circumstance you find yourself in. It can happen no matter how you're feeling.

DAY ONE was entirely shot and produced by me with one camera, 3 lenses, natural light, in the same 4 walls for 2 weeks. Whilst inside a managed isolation facility with nowhere to go and a $0 budget.

Director Biography - Sam Morgan

After a successful career as one of Australasia's first social media creators, accumulating over 1 billion video views, Sam Morgan instilled his love for film and video and decided to get behind the camera after being employed by Topham Guerin as the 'Head of Global Video Projects'. Since then Sam has worked on large scale video projects - one to mention is a parody of the infamous 'Love Actually' card scene with Boris Johnson, days before the general election in the UK back in 2019. Sam's work got noticed by the Sydney Morning Herald and they describe him as "a video mastermind".

Though Sam is is used to being in front of the camera and filming over 400 videos for his 200,000 followers from 2013 to 2017 all by himself - from writing scripts, shooting, acting and playing multiple characters, editing and then distributing - Sam still has a passion to produce films by himself with only the tools he has at hand.

Director Statement

I spent 2 weeks in managed isolation in New Zealand after returning home from 3 months away in London. The challenge I set myself was to produce an experimental piece where I use one camera body, a phone and a choice of 3 lenses with no lighting and proper audio equipment. I used natural light from the windows and lamps from around the same 4 walls of the hotel room. I wanted to enforce a positive message and I wanted to be the only one to do it all.
