DAYDREAM HOTEL (2017)
BEST COMEDY! Special Jury Selection - 50th Annual WorldFest Houston
From the producer and director of SEROTONIN RISING (DALAI LAMA & DEEPAK CHOPRA) and SCHOOL OF THOUGHT (DAVID LYNCH & DONOVAN) a new feature film, DAYDREAM HOTEL.
World Premiere April 28, 2017 at the 50th Annual World-Fest Houston Independent Film Festival. The Daydream Hotel Film Fest Winning Streak continues: Coronado Island Film Festival; 2017 California Film Awards; and 2017 Accolade Global Film Competition.
DAYDREAM HOTEL is the first feature film to be shot at the historic and world famous, HOTEL DEL CORONADO since PETER O'TOOLE made the Academy Award-nominated and Golden Globe-winning film, THE STUNTMAN there in 1979. Before that MARILYN MONROE, JACK LEMMON and TONY CURTIS came to the iconic HOTEL DEL CORONADO in 1958 to make the Oscar and Golden Globe-winning film, SOME LIKE IT HOT.
Produced in partnership with the Coronado School of the Arts with a total working production and post-production budget of under $40,000.
It's Summer of 2022 and a young Nebraska girl, Maddie Portman, discovers a million-dollar Gold Pass to the DAYDREAM HOTEL - where lucky guests are digitally transformed into the fantasy character of their choice. But when Maddie decides to be transformed into a Mermaid she has no idea that on the night of her transformation, a devious plot is put into action by a competing hotel owner, Betty Blackstone, who creeps into the hotel's frightening underground tunnel and attempts to steal the Ignitor Rod required to fire-up the digital transformation energy source.
Betty's plan literally backfires when she and her henchman, Harry Canon, lose grip of the precious Rod and it gets sucked-up into the light-energy wire grid - causing a massive short-circuit. The highly-charged electrical surges knock out the human digital power supply and send intense lightening-like electric charges out to sea - where Maddie is swimming as a mermaid. The lightning bolts race through the water and destroy Maddie's mermaid fins and she is stranded too far out in the Pacific Ocean to safely swim back to shore.
But Maddie is not the only fantasy character guest in dire trouble on this surreal night at the DAYDREAM HOTEL. Before they were transformed, Maddie became fast friends with a shy rich girl, Sloan Soung, who received the rare DAYDREAM HOTEL Gold Pass for her 18th birthday. Sloan went against her parent's wishes of transforming into a "Fairy Tale Princess" and secretly decided to be digitally manipulated into 2022's hottest and sexiest teen pop star, Gold. It's during Gold's exciting concert performance in front of thousands of fans when Betty's plan down below goes haywire and massive electrical charges rush up into Sloan's Gold-transformed body, causing her to convulse wildly and fall hard to the ground. The concert becomes a chaotic scene and no one is aware that Maddie is struggling for her life against a cold rough current miles out to sea.
The third digital transformation guest is a Chicago foreign car mechanic, Michael Bale. Michael is a husband, father and completely unsure about who he truly is and what he wants in life. After winning the DAYDREAM HOTEL Gold Pass on a TV game show, Michael chooses the resort's newest fantasy character, the super hero lover, Alpha Romeo. Among many super-hero powers, Alpha has the ability to impress the ladies with doing one-thousand, one-handed push-ups per minute and the uncanny power to "come and go" at will. Michael gets knocked unconscious from the crippling power surges while having some "Alpha" fun with several women. When he finally comes to, Michael realizes he still has one super power leftover.
Up until the year 2020 - the world-famous Hotel del Coronado was a well-known California beach resort where presidents and movie stars wined, dined and made famous films, such as Some Like It Hot with Marilyn Monroe and Tony Curtis. But in 2018, while digging under his hotel to create a thrilling high-speed elevator ride deep into the center of the earth, the Hotel Del Coronado's eccentric proprietor, Mr. Sugarman, discoveries a strange glowing mineral. Sugarman calls in the noted archeologist, Otis Von Sink, who conducts compression tests on the blue-colored rocks.
Von Sink is amazed when he realizes that the minerals discovered 5-miles under the hotel actually have living organisms within their core! He immediately contacts the infamous Clone-ologist and DNA manipulation specialist, Dr. Herschell Flint, who conducts his own experiments. Within a year, Flint concocts a highly explosive yet powerful formula. Von Sink and Flint work tirelessly together, compressing the newly formulated minerals with high-speed light energy. The dynamic duo experiment with the super-strong formula to manipulate a human's DNA and digitally transformed people into unworldly creatures...not very nice unworldly creatures.
But with a little tweaking, Flint and Von Sink get the balance of blue minerals and light-energy just right - and they create a menu of “Safe" fantasy characters for lucky hotel guests to choose from.
As a former atomic toymaker and rocket scientist, Mr. Sugarman is never one to waste an investment opportunity...or have a little fun. He immediately patents Flint's new formula and the digital transformation process. He changes his centuries-old hotel name to the DAYDREAM HOTEL and begins charging one-million dollars for a weekend stay at his magical hotel along with the opportunity for Human Digital Transformation into the fantasy character of the guest's choice.
To help promote his crazy new venture, Sugarman produces and airs a TV game show, DREAM FOR A DAY - where the Grand Prize is "Human Digital Transformation at the fabulous DAYDREAM HOTEL!" Sugarman also pulls a "Willy Wonka" and places a single DAYDREAM HOTEL Gold Pass into one of his boxes of Del Oats Cereal.

TONY PERRI is an Emmy Award-winng film and TV producer, writer and director. In 2001, Mr. Perri started-up SURF'S UP STUDIOS - an independent film, TV and digital broadcast production company.
As a producer and director, Tony's most recent films include the documentary SCHOOL OF THOUGHT starring Academy-Award-nominated director, DAVID LYNCH (Elephant Man, Twin Peaks) and featuring musicians PAUL McCARTNEY, DONOVAN and MIKE LOVE.
SCHOOL OF THOUGHT follows students in the small Iowa town of Fairfield - where most of the kids (and adults) meditate twice a day! Oprah Winfrey saw this film and decided to visit Fairfield and create a TV special on the community.
Mr. Perri's first feature film is SEROTONIN RISING - a film that addresses the scientific discovery that if you perform a kind act for someone else, your body's feel-good chemicals rise up and you strengthen your immune system. The same thing happens to the recipient of the good deed, as well as any observers of the kind act!
The movie features the DALAI LAMA, DEEPAK CHOPRA and DR. LARRY DOSSEY.
In addition to producing documentaries and feature films, Surf's Up Studios administers production services and creates programming for Coronado TV.
Mr. Perri also manages the broadcast studio at the CORONADO SCHOOL OF THE ARTS - where he teaches and works with young filmmakers throughout the San Diego area on his movies and broadcast productions.
Prior to Surf's Up, Tony was on staff with the Walt Disney Company, producing, writing and directing both live and recorded TV and movie specials. Mr. Perri worked closely as producer, writer and director with Disney executives Michael Eisner and Roy Disney to create dozens of broadcast specials and live TV events.
Tony Perri was instrumental in creating the world's most-viewed broadcast entertainment news release during his participation with Roy Disney in producing the very first WALT DISNEY-RUSSIA FILM FESTIVAL - where Russia movie houses in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Tallin premiered four classic Disney films.
Mr. Perri is a contract producer, writer and director for: KPIX-TV (CBS); Warner Bros. Studios; LucasFilms; Paramount Pictures; SONY; Princess Cruises; PM Magazine; Evening Magazine (CBS) and many more Fortune 500 companies, entertainment studios and production houses.

DAYDREAM HOTEL was made with a budget of under $40,000. Many students from the CORONADO SCHOOL OF THE ARTS both acted and worked as crew on the film.
The fabulous HOTEL DEL CORONADO provided its location and even offered its restaurants for craft services. This as a big deal, as the historic HOTEL DEL has not allowed a feature film to be shot there since 1980 when Peter O'Toole blew up the main turret during the making of his move, THE STUNTMAN!
We did not blow anything up in DAYDREAM HOTEL but we did film within that famous turret and also down below, where a centuries-old tunnel exits. This creepy, dark place was perfect as the film's "Human Digital Transformation" location.
