The DanceBARN ScreenDANCE Festival takes place every year during the DanceBARN Festival in Battle Lake, MN. Official selections for the 2021 ScreenDANCE Festival will presented to a live audience during a free outdoor screening downtown Battle Lake, Minnesota. Any screendances made during the festival also premiere during the showing.

Again this year, we are offering a discounted submission category for screendances made in Minnesota!

DanceBARN seeks screendance submissions, dances made for the screen, for our 2021 season. Submissions must, in some way, employ both choreographic concepts and the language of film. Documentation of live performances will not be accepted.

Submission of films and supplementary documentation must take place exclusively through FilmFreeway. Selected films must provide a high-quality download of their film, artist bios, 1-2 screenshots or production photos, and as much supplementary information about the film as possible. Due to the brief one-evening length of our screening, preference will be given to films under 15 minutes.

Artists must have copyright permissions for all submitted media and be able to demonstrate these rights upon request. By submitting, the artists grant DanceBARN the right to screen the film for the duration of the festival and agree to indemnify and hold DanceBARN harmless from any and all claims, actions, suits, procedures, costs, expenses, damages and liabilities arising from any copyright disputes.

Lastly, because our festival screening is free and open to the public we cannot accept submissions that include extreme violence or nudity.

Thank you for your interest in our festival! For any clarifications, please contact our curator and festival organizer, Robert Uehlin: rob@robertuehlin.com.

  • DanceBarn ScreenDANCE is a unique festival sharing movement driven filmmaking in rural Minnesota, a location where this kind of work rarely finds a place to share. Thank you for the honor of Black Label Movement and our film being a part of this year's festival!

  • Being a part of the DanceBARN residency and the ScreenDANCE Festival was an absolute joy as a dance artist and dance film maker. The screen dance festival is tightly woven into the surrounding dance and non-dance community, and the quality and curation of the films was incredibly high. Very intimate and community based, but also extraordinarily professional and organized. The residency leading up to the festival was also a slice of paradise. Dancing every day, relaxing in nature, creating our own dance films, and meeting other artists and learning from each other. Thanks DanceBARN!

All communications I received were professional, warm and enthusiastic, and I was sorry not to be able to attend in person. The feedback I received on my film was very insightful, useful and constructive. So glad my screendance Currency could be a part of this festival!
