CULTO A LA HISTORIA NATURAL DE MÉXICO

Cult of the Natural History of Mexico is a project that aims to celebrate and offer the biodiversity of this land full of ecological complexity and geographical benefits.

This work compiles 20 years of uninterrupted experience of Miguel Ángel Sicilia touring the natural corners of Mexico.

The result is a beautiful and immersive journey through the ecosystems of Mexico that begins with the great mountain systems of the center of the country, followed by the magical temperate forests, the ethereal cloud forests, the exuberant rainforest, the mysterious caves, the inhospitable deserts, ending with the abundant coasts, where the species that inhabit each of these ecosystems are the only protagonists. With more than 100 species on stage, which make up the incredible natural history of Mexico, this work represents Miguel Ángel Sicilia's career as a wildlife filmmaker and is his legacy for future generations.

Mexico comprises a particular territory where the two great ecozones of the continent converge. The Nearctic to the north and the Neotropical to the south, together with its high mountainous systems in the center that together provide a great variety of ecosystems and fauna. In addition, this land is embraced by the largest and richest oceans in the world. For this reason, the pre-Hispanic settlers named Mexico as "The Place in the Navel of the Moon".

Director Statement

Cult to the Natural History of Mexico arises as an idea conceived during the great adventure of multiple years of work and experience documenting the nature of Mexico by Miguel Ángel Sicilia. The accumulation of splendor and beauty through his trajectory as a wildlife filmmaker captivated his eyes, and that marked the beginning of this fabulous project. So, he began the work of gathering in small visual fragments his most significant works in his desire to transmit and share the wonders that nature has to offer to human delight and at the same time make human beings also feel like guardians of nature, the important role that belongs to us.

By 2021, the narration and stories, which were cohesive elements of this offering to Mexican nature, were added to the project. This writing work takes its inspiration from the appreciation and experiences shared between Monserrat Armenta and Miguel Ángel Sicilia. Both formally began "Cult of the Natural History of Mexico" with the solid idea of transmitting this beautiful visual representation of natural perfection in Mexico to Mexicans and to people around the world interested in approaching this wonderful land of ecological diversity.
