Crisis

A state of perpetual crisis that permeates our everyday existence, leaves us with nothing we can hold dear. The film is an attempt to express the same feeling of being in a foreign space, a landscape where everything seems familiar and yet unknown. Urban spaces, especially in growing metropolis like Delhi, have a tendency to impose themselves on its residents to a degree where the individual begins to loose control and the ambience takes over. Crisis is a result of that very experience.

Director Biography - Suraj Prasad

I co-founded Lightcube, one of the most popular and active film societies in New Delhi in 2012 with long time friend and collaborator Anuj Malhotra. Lightcube has successfully completed five years of organising a diverse set of programmes and runs two publications dedicated to cinema. In five years of running Lightcube, I have organised nearly three hundred and fifty film screenings across India, including rural landscapes, I am now heading The Dhenuki Cinema Project, a cinema based education and awareness program by Lightcube.

I have been a regular film-reviewer for The Asian Age, a national daily newspaper and I help publish a quarterly journal of independent cinema called Umbra.

I am a member of the prestigious Network for Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC) India chapter. Before stepping into films, I have spent four years in the Radio Industry hosting radio shows and producing radio programs. I am also active in the New Delhi theatre circle and have recently found interest in Immersive theatre.

My interests in digital technology, web, distribution systems and interactive design have lead me to some interesting projects. I have in the past worked on different projects with esteemed organisations such as NETPAC, Dharamshala International Film Festival (DIFF), Delhi International Arts Festival (DIAF) and Serendipity Arts Festival.

A state of perpetual crisis that permeates our everyday existence, leaves us with nothing we can hold dear. Crisis is a result of that very experience.

The project developed as a self imposed exercise. Working with the limitations of no budget, a new software to work with, a cell-phone camera to shoot and no script to follow. The music too had to be from creative commons licenses, and a timeline of just one week.

Crisis is an important learning experience, one that freed me from the shackles of belief systems around the creative process, especially around filmmaking.
