Half-English, half-Norwegian and raised in Sweden, Cameron Krogh Stone began his career with a brief TV stint in Beijing. Back in Stockholm, Cameron learnt about lighting, directing and production design at drama school. Moving to London, he then produced and directed theatre at University and the Edinburgh Fringe, before coming to the London Film Academy. Now he is fully immersed in the world of film, making shorts and providing voice-over for TV and feature films such as 'Eddie The Eagle', 'The Infiltrator' and 'Humans'. He is currently in post-production on his latest short film "Behind The Lights".
I wanted to find a fun way of exploring a couple's foray into domination and submission
- why they choose to try it, how erotic fiction inspires them, and what happens when it
goes wrong. Riddled with boundaries, moral dilemmas and anxiety, this world felt
perfect to link to Dostoevsky's classic. When journeying into this dark, new world, how
will the lovers balance each other's desires and needs? Would it be permissible for one
to go past the other's limits to achieve satisfaction, to escape the dull pain of existence?
In a way, the film also represents the negotiations between an artist and their
audience: Our characters both seek adventure, but with different hidden agendas.
While Roddy just wants to be slapped about a bit, Zephyrine wants to explore
something far darker. While Zephyrine wants more than anything to be taken seriously,
it is the last thing Roddy can do. Now, which character represents the artist and which
the audience is up for you to decide. 'Crime & Punishment', though originally written as
a story of young love and discovery, later became a dark, comedic tale of regaining lost
youth, reigniting lost passion, and awakening dormant desires.
