Carlos Jiménez is a young Spanish director born in Madrid. He graduated in Journalism and Audiovisual Communication and holds a master's degree in Film Direction from the EFTI School of Cinema and Photography. From a young age, he always showed an interest in storytelling and, over time, realized that the stories he was truly passionate about were those that connected, in one way or another, with human emotions. Those stories that, with luck, would tug at the viewer's heartstrings. VUELVE A CASA is his third short film, following VACÍO and DESPIDE A TU FUCKBOI. This time, he opts for a longer format to tell a story about trauma and mental health, sprinkled with hints of horror.
So far, in my previous projects, I have always focused on portraying different life experiences of the LGTBIQ+ community as the central theme of my stories. This time, with "Come Home", I wanted to tell a story led by a queer character without necessarily making it solely about their identity.
The horror genre, much like it has for many in our community, has become a place of escape, a space I believe many of us can relate to. That's why I felt the need to address something deeply personal using elements of this genre.
The main theme of the short film is childhood trauma and how it can change us to the point where we no longer recognize ourselves. As part of the LGTBIQ+ community, this is something I have personally experienced. The sudden death of a loved one was also a topic I was deeply interested in exploring, and I used it as a means to reflect on the rupture between our inner child and our current self.
Samuel’s journey, the main character of "Come Home", embodies all of this. Placing a queer character at the heart of a ghost story ultimately made this project the most special I’ve created so far.
